Neutrality

Hey, so this is a BLP for a politician currently campaigning. It almost exclusively cites things put out by his office or campaign and appears to have been mainly written by one dude with minimal other contributions. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but it's clear it needs a major rewrite to not be full of peacock terms and to not read like a campaign biography. – Joe N 04:30, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

I agree with it not seeming neutral. JobsOhio should be mentioned. Why? I found a news story mentioning it when I wasn't even looking for it, and if you Google search ohio auditor of state jobsohio, one finds plenty of newspaper results covering Yost and his relationship with JobsOhio. The story I linked to notes that some Republicans didn't appreciate Yost's audit, and that the state legislature passed a law prohibiting such audits in the future. I argue that JobsOhio is more notable that some of the topics currently on the Wikipedia article. Anonymous-232 (talk) 15:45, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

I looked at the article history, and in 2014 it was clearly a puff piece written in pro-POV. Now, it's much shorter as the offending passages have been removed. The POV tag on the article is almost four years old and out of date. I have removed it. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:13, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Dave vs. David Anthony

The lede says "David Anthony Yost" and does not mention he goes by "Dave Yost". This seems a bit strange, given that the title of the page is Dave Yost. Should the start of the article say, Dave Yost (David Anthony Yost), or perhaps David "Dave" Anthony Yost? I don't know the standard for this in BLP.TricksterWolf (talk) 17:50, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

It is common and well-established practice on Wikipedia biographies to use a title that reflects everyday usage, and to use the person's full name in the first sentence. Cullen328 (talk) 01:50, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Abortion

I understand that's a big issue right now, especially considering his comments about the 10 year old, but this article appears to have been written written way to recent, with 4 paragraphs written about the topic (which has taken place over the last 4 weeks), and only a couple of sentences regarding early life (and literally only one sentence regarding the rest of his time has ohio AG). His career, including positions he held prior to becoming Ohio attorney general (he was Ohio Auditor of State for 8 years from 2011 to 2018, which is not even mentioned in the body), definitely could be expanded. However, the quantity of coverage in this section is not WP:UNDUE given the national (and international) coverage this incident and Yost's role in it has received. I agree with General Ization. There is certainly good reason to expand the sections of the article about his career before his deep recent involvement in the controversy about a ten year old rape victim leaving Ohio to get an abortion. I didn't argue undue, I stated recentism, which is evident by the single sentence for two years, and the four paragraphs for one month. There's nothing wrong with the last half, but if you don't want an editor to come in here and argue UNDUE, and try to remove those 4 paragraphs (as they're already trying to do, by making a relevancy claim, which, mind you, I was the one who reverted the removal to keep the content up the second time, it got removed twice), then the article needs to be balanced against those 4 paragraphs. When you recognize that an article is imbalanced due to a paucity of content describing the subject's career before the current controversy, the appropriate response is generally not to question whether the content about the controversy is "too recent". Typically, the argument against recentism is that we do not yet know whether the material will prove to be highly relevant to the subject's notability. Given the volume of coverage of this incident and the fact that relatively few people outside of Ohio had ever heard of Yost prior to this month, I think we can set that concern aside. Update article structure and add new subsection

Hi, I'm working to improve and update the article:

• Please change "Education and early career" to "Early life and education", and move the section up so that it's the first one following the lead, as per standard Wikipedia style.
• Please add a new subsection entitled "Human trafficking operations" under the section "Ohio Attorney General (2019-present)", including the following:

In January 2025, Yost announced a new partnership between Truckers Against Trafficking and TravelCenters of America to train truck drivers to identify and report human trafficking. In May that year, during an ongoing investigation run by Yost's office, eight women were charged with operating a human trafficking ring in illicit massage parlors. A few months later, in September, Yost announced that 135 individuals in Ohio seeking to buy sex were arrested in a statewide human trafficking operation called Operation Next Door. At the end of 2025, Yost said he had doubled the number of Human Trafficking Task Forces in Ohio.

Updating the "Ohio Attorney General (2019-present)" section

Hi, the following are suggestions for updating the "Ohio Attorney General (2019-present)" section:

• Add to the end of the "Voting laws" subsection:

Yost later approved the measure after the state Supreme Court ruled that the title was not part of the statutory analysis.

• Update language in the "Refusal to permit Joe Biden on the 2024 ballot" subsection to better reflect the sourcing:

In April 2024, Dave Yost's office said that provisional approval wouldn't work to get President Joe Biden on the November ballot before the Democratic National Convention, which was scheduled to take place after the state certification deadline. Later, a bill was passed ensuring Biden would appear on the ballot.

• Move the last sentence about swatting from "Personal life" to the more fitting "Ohio Attorney General" section, placing it in chronological order, and add the following:

The following year, Yost received threatening letters in the mail with suspicious white powder and a bullet etched with his name. In May 2025, a man was accused in connection with the crimes and in April 2026, he pleaded guilty.

Additional updates to "Ohio Attorney General (2019-present)" section

Hi, please edit the following in the various subsections:

• Tweak a few words in "Abortion ban" to better reflect the sourcing:

-In the first sentence of the second paragraph, replace "his actions" with "the Supreme Court decision" (so that it reads "Yost's son and daughter-in-law publicly criticized the Supreme court decision in messages...")

-In the third paragraph, add "Later" to the beginning of the last sentence to clarify the sequence of events (so that it reads "Later that day, the report was confirmed...")

• In "Attempt to invalidate 2020 presidential election results", the account is misleading and not in line with the sources. Please update the paragraph as follows:

In December 2020, Yost filed an amicus curiae brief in the U.S. Supreme Court case Texas v. Pennsylvania. Rather than supporting Texas's attempt to overturn the election, Ohio argued that the Supreme Court lacked the constitutional authority to order state legislatures to appoint a new slate of electors, but urged the Court to definitively rule on the Electors Clause to prevent future election administration issues.

• Add to the end of "2023 East Palestine train derailment":

Although the federal government and the plaintiffs settled their cases, Yost had not joined the settlement and the litigation remained ongoing as of March 2026.

• In "Pro-Palestinian campus protests response", remove the last two sentences of the first paragraph (beginning "Yost said:") as per WP:EXCESSDETAIL, as well as the entire second paragraph (beginning "Ohio legal expert") since it doesn't relate to Yost.

Updates to lead, Political career, House bill 6 scandal, and Personal life

Hi, I have a few more suggested updates:

• In the lead, update the second paragraph to give a broader overview instead of its current narrow focus:

During his tenure as Attorney General, he sued President Joe Biden over his OSHA vaccine mandate, winning a U.S. Supreme Court order invalidating the rule. He has taken controversial positions regarding abortion, transgender rights, and the power of the federal government. He was unanimously elected as President of the National Association of Attorneys General in 2023.

• In Political career, add a sentence about Yost's time as Delaware County Prosecutor:

He was the prosecutor in the capital murder case of Gerald Robert Hand, Delaware County's first death row case since 1987.

• At the end of the House Bill 6 scandal section, add the following sentence:

He was never called as a witness.

• In Personal life, update the number of grandchildren to six.
