Dubious Arms?
[edit]I recognise my clan badge all right, but is there any authority for these arms?
In most heraldry arms are borne by an individual, not a whole clan; and in Scottish heraldry I believe you refer to a star, not a mullet.

Requested move
[edit]I think the article ought to be moved to Clan Macrae. This is how the name is listed on the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs website . Same with the 'official' clan website .--Celtus (talk) 10:39, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- A recent anonymous edit has raised again the issue whether "Macrae" should be "MacRae". I am in favour of the former but, whatever the answer, I think the importance of consistency with the article title and with other clan articles is such that "Macrae" should not be changed to "MacRae" in the absence of broad consensus.45ossington (talk) 21:42, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Origins of surname
[edit]The surname MacRae is based on the Gaelic word for grace, as in a religious sense, and it was given as a nickname or first name to individuals. Mac was added to denote descendents. It's nothing to do with 'rath' meaning fort. I don't want to just change it because I'm not an experienced wikipedia editor and I don't want to muck it up. But could someone better versed in these things than me please amend? The correct info can easily be found, for example 'the clan history of clan macrae' talks about the origins of the surname.
