Notability

The article was originally created for an AI agent of OpenAI. Unfortunately, someone tried to convert it into a generic article using blogs of Perplexity and Gemini. It was not acceptable and I have reverted it. I'm in process to expand it using in-depth secondary sources (definitely meets WP:GNG), so please wait for a few days if you are planning to take this to WP:AFD. Well, that seems like the correct choice considering the name 'Deep Research' was originally coined by Gemini Deep Research and now describes multiple similarly functioning AI offerings/tools.

Seems bizarre to focus purely on a single commercial offering and to include lines such as "Deep Research is currently offered to ChatGPT Pro subscribers ($200/month)". 93.105.186.106 (talk) 19:58, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

Proposal to rename the article to "Deep Research (AI)"

I would like to propose that this article be renamed from ChatGPT Deep Research to Deep Research (AI) or a similar neutral title.

While the functionality was originally introduced by OpenAI within ChatGPT in early 2025, the "Deep Research" mode is no longer exclusive to ChatGPT. As of February–March 2025, it has also been implemented in:

• Perplexity AI, which offers a feature called Deep Research generating multi-source research reports, even in its free version;
• Google Gemini, where an equivalent capability has been integrated for advanced subscribers;
• DeepSeek, which has developed similar reasoning-enhanced agents for web research.

The term “Deep Research” is now used more broadly in industry and media coverage (see: VentureBeat, Analytics Vidhya) to refer to a type of AI capability that allows a language model to autonomously browse the web, evaluate multiple sources, and produce well-sourced, structured responses.

In line with Wikipedia’s neutral point of view and naming conventions, and similar to what was done on the French Wikipedia, where the article was titled simply Recherche approfondie (intelligence artificielle), I believe this article should reflect the general technology, not a single implementation.

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect, IIRC Google / Gemini had it first. Gemini Deep Research existed since... last November, I think?

This article used a completely fabricated source, possibly hallucinated by an LLM

A few important facts:

-This article does not actually exist. No article with this headline exists.

-There is no journalist named Dominic Preston who writes for The Register. (There is one who is an editor at The Verge, but who has never worked at The Register.)

-The citation linked to a blog post by OpenAI, not any news article.

I am not experienced with Wikipedia. I don't know the procedures. Is there a way to find out who added this citation to Wikipedia and to report their account for review? YarrowFlower (talk) 17:16, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
