Stock

The buttstock is collapsible on the M4 Model (designated 11707) but will not collapse on the M1014. This is because the M1014 was manufactured before the U.S. 1994 assault weapon ban expired, whereas the M11707 has been manufactured since the ban expired therefore not subject to the terms under the ban.

This doesn't make sense. Why would the AWB prevent the military from having a collapsible stock on the M1014? The AWB only applied to civilians, not military or law enforcement. Spartan198 (talk) 13:58, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I checked the USMC technical manual on the M1014 (TM 10698A-10/1) just now and yes, it does describe the stock as 'telescoping' (i.e. collapsible) on page 11. Changing now.Dvaderv2 (talk) 17:51, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

H&K?

H&K no longer handles Benelli, right? Can someone confirm? Potentially out of UK service

I was looking at several Defence Equipment Sales Authority listings when I came across this. I'm of two minds about this - on the one hand, DESA listings typically concern equipment that is out of service or due to be out of service (see this brochure), but on the other hand there are listings for equipment that doesn't seem to be obviously going out of service any time soon and thus seem to be purely about getting rid of surplus. More importantly, the British Army's small arms page still treats the Benelli as being in service (though at the same time it doesn't mention the L85A3 and still treats the L86A2 LSW as being in service too, so not the most reliable source in this regard).

All in all, this needs more investigation (read - in all probability, a Freedom of Information request), and the only thing we can be certain of is that the UK Government is flogging off Benellis for some reason or other. - Dvaderv2 (talk) 00:29, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Re-adding Bulgaria as User with verified source

Hello, I tried to add Bulgaria as a user of the Benelli M4 Super 90. The source is from the official website of the Bulgarian Special Operations Command (JSOCOM), specifically during their 82nd anniversary event on March 18, 2025. In the gallery [here](https://jsocom.armf.bg/galery1.php?IDNews=96), the Benelli M4 is clearly shown on the official display table alongside other known service weapons like the MP5, HK417, and Sako TRG M10.

This is a government source and a verifiable photo. If Serbia is listed (based on CAJ use), Bulgaria should certainly be included as well, considering the direct evidence.

However, in this case, the image is hosted on the **official website** of the Bulgarian Special Operations Command (JSOCOM), which is a direct governmental authority. The weapons displayed are not random — they are part of an **official, curated presentation** for the 82nd anniversary of the unit (March 18, 2025).

In the image, the **Benelli M4 Super 90** is clearly visible on the equipment table, alongside confirmed service weapons like the HK417, Sako TRG M10, and MP5 — all of which are also used by Bulgarian SOF and accepted in Wikipedia based on this same source type. That makes this more than just "an image" — it's **official visual documentation from a military event**.

Also, similar standards have allowed the inclusion of other countries (e.g., Serbia), where usage is much more limited or based on even less direct proof.

Even if the image comes from a military/government page directly, an image alone doesn't really corroborate the claim. For example there are cases in the current Russia-Ukraine war in which one side might capture certain weapons/vehicles, and display them on parade or at publicity events (like the one I assume this pic comes from), but there is no actual proof in the form of a source that directly says they have been entered into service. This would fall under WP:OR, as this would require making inferences that is not directly in the source itself. We have publications like Jane's Infantry Weapons which are dedicated specifically to documenting the global use of firearms by country, so I really don't think there's anything excessive in the requirement of having a source that corroborates without the use of OR. Thanks again. I've found a supporting official video source from the Bulgarian MoD's own television channel. It's a report from the 82nd JSOCOM anniversary, with footage of the static weapon display mentioned earlier. Around the 3:16 mark, a close-up shows the HK417 and TRG M10 clearly, and the Benelli M4 partially visible. The narration clearly states that this display shows "from the oldest to the most modern equipment currently in service."

This doesn't count as a source that "explicitly supports" the claim, only indirectly so. An appropriate source just needs to say, directly and plainly, that the M4 is in fact in service, so long as it's an WP:RS, that's the only requirement for inclusion. Loafiewa (talk) 12:57, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for your input. While I understand the strict policy against OR, I believe we now have a composite of official sources. Aside from the JSOCOM image and video, BTA, Bulgaria's national news agency, reported on 18 March 2025 that “a project for the acquisition of new armaments has been developed in the SOF and is in an advanced phase” during the 82nd anniversary event.

This adds a **clear written context** that SOF are actively acquiring new weapons, matching the presence of the Benelli M4 in the same display. I believe this meets the WP:RS requirement for “direct and plain” indication, especially when combined with the other evidence.
