To those involved in recent edits on this page (aside from myself), it appears that much of this article was derived from ARC promotional materials. The language deviates from Wikipedia's neutrality policy, there are extremely few references or citations (aside from those that I have included), and the writing is better suited for a magazine than an encyclopedia. Whereas it is abundantly clear that ARC has many outstanding achievements in providing humanitarian aid, this can be better described using neutral, well-referenced language. Among other things, it was necessary to remove the first-person pronoun from many phrases as well as a number of contractions. You will better serve both Wikipedia and ARC by editing in a careful and professional manner. Cmacauley (talk) 14:56, 17 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Significant improvement, especially with regard to references. What happened to the Annual Report cover photo? Any plans to replace it? Cmacauley (talk) 14:36, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Moved. See general agreement below to move this article to its subject's new name, and that there is no need for a qualifier for now. Kudos to editors for your input, and Happy Publishing! (nac by page mover) Paine Ellsworth, ed. put'r there  17:37, 14 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

American Refugee Committee → Alight – new name as of June 21, 2019. SusanLesch (talk) 15:45, 26 June 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. — Newslinger talk 06:23, 6 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:33, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank you, Anthony Appleyard. This is more complicated than overwriting the redirect to Fire. Will we have to disambiguate in parentheses? Like Alight (organization) or Alight (NGO). I don't think I can choose one of those, so, if that's true, I will write to Alight and ask them what they prefer. If you think it can possibly stand alone as Alight after discussion, I won't write. -SusanLesch (talk) 22:39, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Proposed updates: History, Program areas, Geographic presence, financials

[edit]

Summary of proposed changes:

1. History and leadership

  • Reworded prose to reduce reliance on the organization's own website; sourced leadership succession (Ball, Breen, Kozlowski, Parmer, Frederickson, Wordsworth, Wyatt) to independent sources (MNHS archives, MPR, Washington Post, Chronicle of Philanthropy) where available.
  • Downgraded a speaker-bio source (SID-US) to basic-fact use only (joining date, prior employer), per WP:ABOUTSELF — removed evaluative claims it doesn't independently support.

2. Program areas

  • Rewrote to match Alight's current stated program categories (cited to its "What We Do" page for the category list only, per WP:ABOUTSELF), removing an unsourced legacy program list (e.g. "Through Our Eyes," "Community Reconciliation") that could not be verified against any current source.
  • Attributed the "4 million people annually" figure to Alight, as reported by Sustainable Brands, rather than stating it as fact.

3. Geographic presence and major responses

  • Fixed a citation mismatch: the Myanmar funding-cut claim was previously cited to a 2020 Fast Company article about the organization's rebrand, which does not support it. Re-cited to MPR News (Nov. 6, 2025) and Alight's own foreign-aid FAQ.
  • Corrected the description of 2025 funding cuts: sourcing supports that Alight lost U.S. government funding for Myanmar and South Sudan specifically, while retaining funding for Sudan, Somalia, and Uganda — not that all five were equally affected with funding later "restored."
  • Added a sourced sentence on the Nairobi regional hub (opened September 2024), attributed to Alight's own description, since no independent coverage was found.
  • Retained the Balkans paragraph (Blinken OSA Archivum, an independent archival source) largely as-is.

4. Infobox financials

  • Updated revenue ($82.6 million) and expenses ($89.3 million) from the outdated 2020 figures to FY2025 (year ended March 31, 2025) audited consolidated financial statements, cited to Alight's FY2025 Annual Impact Report (audited by GRF, CPA and Advisors), p. 25.

Sourcing approach: Throughout, wearealight.org is used only for plain, uncontroversial facts about the organization itself (per WP:ABOUTSELF), with independent sourcing (MPR News, MNHS, Washington Post, Fast Company, Sustainable Brands, Blinken OSA Archivum) prioritized wherever available, particularly for any claim with evaluative or promotional weight.

Your edits may be well meant and seem reasonable but you have introduced tons of citation errors.  Mr.choppers | ✎  02:35, 23 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
