Dam height

[edit]

There's (almost) no way the dam is only 9 metres (30 ft) high. In the World Bank report currently in Further reading, the temporary dykes of September 1994 were 328 metres (1,076 ft) high (see p. 5). Snowman304|talk 18:11, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Photo from 2021, with a man in the foreground. 9m height seems possibly/likely. 73.159.152.237 (talk) 22:31, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
The math isn't adding up.
Per https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/236413164.pdf, "The Dam is 9meters high with a square reservoir area of about 50 km. The maximum storage capacity is 112 million meter cube."
9m*50km²=0.45km³, which is about 1/250 of the storage capacity. Snowman304|talk 23:52, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't disagree, i'm not sure how all this water is stored there, but i'm going to make your math math worse... "...Its intensive use on the Alau Lake is possible because of the shallowmess of the Lake (Mean depth 4.25m)" https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/11019421.pdf#:~:text=Its%20intensive%20use%20on%20the%20Alau%20Lake,shallowmess%20of%20the%20Lake.%20(Mean%20depth%204.25m).
But that does hopefully put to rest the plausibility of whether the artificial dam is only 9m high. 73.159.152.237 (talk) 21:48, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Wow! I assumed that the picture was one section of the dam or there were locks or something. I hope someone can find a picture of the area because I'm just getting more confused. Snowman304|talk 22:39, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
112 million cubic metres is 0.112 cubic kilometres. Adavidson99 (talk) 02:22, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Dam wall is 9m high according to https://www.researchgate.net/publication/384724376_Navigating_the_Depths_An_Assessment_of_the_Management_and_Operations_of_Alau_Dam_Reservoir. Full supply level appears to be 329 m *above sea level* Adavidson99 (talk) 02:20, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
