Abbasid Flag?

[edit]

The Abbasids adopted a black banner and dynastic color like the Rashidun Caliphate, similar to the white dynastic color adopted by the Fatimids.

To avoid confusion, I do not believe this should not be used as a "flag" in the infobox. It is already described in the lead.

The Rashidun Caliphate and Fatimid Caliphate articles do not have a dynastic color flag in their infoboxes. Should we remove the black banner from the flag?

I attempted to do so, but @Trekkie49 reverted my edit. Firecat93 (talk) 23:57, 27 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Article length

[edit]

I'm currently revising and filling out some of the History section, which was in need of both citations and further details about some fairly fundamental developments/events, but I also want to note here that the article is already a bit large for WP:LENGTH purposes. I think the most obvious first step is to spin off much of the "Culture" section into something like Abbasid art for a start, but there might be stuff to move or trim in subsequent sections too. I can do this myself when I have time, but if there are other thoughts or further suggestions, feel free to discuss here. R Prazeres (talk) 06:20, 22 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Update: this is now done, relevant sections have been moved to Abbasid art. R Prazeres (talk) 01:01, 2 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Is the map acurate?

[edit]

weren't the Hindu shahis and Zunbils still independent? ~2026-24644-0 (talk) 17:58, 12 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

You have to be precise, and ideally, present the reliable sources that refer to whatever you're alluding to. M.Bitton (talk) 18:10, 12 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

The map contains an error.

[edit]

The opening map says "Cyrpus" instead of "Cyprus" on Cyprus. Malti Crocodile (talk) 00:39, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Well spotted, thank you. Someone would need to manually edit the image to fix it. I've left a request directly on the file's discussion page, but the author of the map has not been active since 2024, so we may need to wait until another capable image editor has time to do this. Infobox map correction

[edit]

Monopoly31121993(2) appears to be right in this edit: I haven't seen any evidence in reliable sources that Ragusa (Dubrovnik) was under Abbasid (or even other Muslim) control in this period. I've left a request for clarification at the file's discussion page on Commons for good measure, but the original uploader is inactive so I doubt we'll get another answer there. Since it is a small and nearly trivial detail in the map (I had never even noticed it until now) and since I don't see any support for it in sources, I've just re-uploaded a version of that image without the green around this city (though the "Cyrpus" typo mentioned above is still something I can't easily edit myself). I would always prefer a map with clearer or more direct reference to reliable sources, but unless there are other clear problems with it, I see no reason to remove it again.
