The 1960 trap

I didn't see her actual DOB mentioned, and debated adding her year of birth as 1960 (given she was 25 in 1985), but decided against it because if her birthday is between October 31 and December 31 her year of birth would have been 1959. Did you happen to see it in a source? Anynobody 10:10, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure I saw it too, but I remember it saying something like "...around 1960 when she was born..." and then thinking that they must not have known her DOB either. If not 1960 it'd have to be 1959 so I added both and put the article in the appropriate categories of missing info. I also added an image of the type of weapon she used, articles without images seem oddly "bare" to me. Anynobody 03:30, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Mini-14?

Reading the Crime Library's article, it implies that the weapon was a Ruger 10/22, not a Mini-14. Additionally, that articles listed price of $107 is much closer to a modern retail 10/22's price instead of a Mini-14 (when adjusted for inflation).

Additionally, it says that "she had 10 bullets [rounds] left in one of her clips [magazines]". The Wiki articles differs slightly by saying "She had ten rounds left in her weapon's magazine.", implying she only had one magazine. --UnneededAplomb (talk) 06:12, 11 December 2007 (UTC) Very Correct the weapon was a .22 caliber 10/22 and not a mini 14. Had the weapon been a mini 14 there would have been many more casualties. Category:American murderers of children

I noticed that an IP user removed "Category:American murderers of children" from this page's categories, but it seems like this woman should fit under that category since she murdered a child as one of the victims. --Apollo1758 (talk) 18:43, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Added citation needed on 10 rounds in magazine

The information has no citation, nor does it have a citation on size of her magazine or number of magazines she had brought to the site.Wzrd1 (talk) 06:47, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Footmote does mot provide support for assertion in article.

There's a reference in the article to Seegrist having become the butt of jokes when she was asked out on a date as a prank. The footnote attached to this statement says nothing about this. Ileanadu (talk) 05:54, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

Sylvia Seegrist → 1985 Springfield Mall shooting – WP:BIO1E. While there is some notability to Seegrist as an individual, the primary focus is still the shooting. The aftermath section borders on WP:SOAP rather than being informative about either the state of gun control then and after or treatment of Seegrist's mental health. The last three paragraphs, particularly the last two, seem to hold undue weight and are written in a weirdly personal manner with lengthy quotations for what look to be just Seegrist's musing rather than anything relevant.

The year in the title differentiates it from a more minor shooting that took place at the mall in 2018, reports of which reference the 1985 one fairly often without mention of Seegrist. Rubintyrann (talk) 14:11, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
