Slido is an audience response platform used for live questions and answers, polling and other forms of audience participation during meetings and events. It was founded in Bratislava, Slovakia, in 2012 by Peter Komorník, Peter Slivka and František Krivda.[1]
Slido expanded internationally during the 2010s and was acquired by Cisco in 2021.[2] It was subsequently integrated with Webex while continuing to be offered as a separate product.[3]
History
[edit]The idea behind Slido originated as a university project intended to make it easier for lecturers to collect feedback from students. The product was later adapted for conferences after an early customer suggested allowing participants to submit questions electronically.[4] Peter Komorník, Peter Slivka and František Krivda were involved in establishing the company.[5]
By 2014, Slido had been used at about 1,500 events in 50 countries. Its customers at the time included event organizers as well as companies using the platform for internal meetings and employee training.[4]
The company grew rapidly during the second half of the 2010s. In 2018, Slido had revenue of more than €3 million and had grown from around 50 employees to more than 100. It ranked fourth in Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 Central Europe, with revenue growth of 2,971 percent between 2014 and 2017.[6]
In 2018, Slido was used at approximately 130,000 events in about 130 countries. By 2019, the company had more than 130 employees and offices in Bratislava, London, New York, San Francisco and Sydney.[7]
Slido increasingly expanded from conferences into corporate meetings and online collaboration. By December 2020, the platform had about seven million users and that the company was profitable.[2]
On 7 December 2020, Cisco announced an agreement to acquire Slido for an undisclosed amount. Cisco planned to incorporate Slido's question-and-answer and polling functions into Webex while continuing to support the product separately and with other collaboration platforms.[2] The acquisition of sli.do s.r.o. by Cisco Systems International B.V. became effective on 2 May 2021.[8]
Following the acquisition, Slido's employees became part of Cisco. Its team grew from about 150 to 200 people during the first half of 2021, and an integration with Webex was released in June that year.[3]
In September 2025, co-founder Peter Komorník announced that he was stepping down as chief executive after more than a decade leading Slido.[9]
Platform
[edit]Slido allows participants to submit questions through an internet-connected device during a meeting or event. Other participants can vote for submitted questions, allowing frequently supported questions to move higher in the queue. Organizers can also use the platform to conduct live polls.[7][2]
The software was initially developed primarily for conferences and events but later became used for internal company meetings and online collaboration.[4][2]
