Shahin Hamid oghlu Khalilli (Azerbaijani: Şahin Həmid oğlu Xəlilli; born 13 May 1951) is an Azerbaijani philologist, literary scholar, translator, and professor. He is known for his research on Azerbaijani–English literary relations and British literature.

Early life and education

Khalilli was born on 13 May 1951 in the village of Körpülü, Barana District, in the Armenian SSR, Soviet Union. In 1973, he graduated from the Faculty of English–Azerbaijani Languages of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now the Azerbaijan University of Languages).

Following his graduation, he worked as a school teacher in Kalbajar District before completing one year of military service.

Between 1974 and 1976, Khalilli worked as an interpreter for the Japanese company Toshiba at the Foreign Relations Department of the Baku Air Conditioner Factory. Since 1976, he has been affiliated with the Azerbaijan University of Languages.

Academic career

In 1985, Khalilli defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation entitled The Azerbaijani Theme in the Works of James Aldridge.

In 1992, his monograph James Aldridge and Azerbaijan was published by Yazıçı Publishing House. The book was presented at the residence of the British novelist James Aldridge in London. A documentary directed by Etibar Babayev included Aldridge's views on Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Khalilli's research.

In 1999, Khalilli participated in the 25th Seminar of British Writers held at the University of Cambridge.

In 2005, he defended his Doctor of Sciences dissertation on Azerbaijani–English Literary Links (Ancient and Medieval Periods).

His research focuses primarily on Azerbaijani–English literary relations, British literature, folklore, and children's literature.
