Palkovice is a municipality and village in Frýdek-Místek District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,500 inhabitants.

Etymology
[edit]The name Palkovice is derived from the personal name Palek, meaning "the village of Palek's people".[3]
Geography
[edit]Palkovice is located about 4 kilometres (2 mi) southwest of Frýdek-Místek and 18 km (11 mi) south of Ostrava. It lies in the Moravian-Silesian Foothills. The highest point is the hill Kubánkov at 660 m (2,165 ft) above sea level.
History
[edit]The first written mention of Palkovice is from 1437. The village was probably founded in the first half of the 14th century. Myslík was first mentioned in 1564.[3]

Sights

The main landmark of Palkovice is the Church of Saint John the Baptist. It was built in the late Renaissance style in 1631.[6]
