The Museum of Chinese in Australia, also called MOCA, is an Australian history museum located in Sydney's Chinatown.[1]
It was conceived in 2019 and opened in February 2026, to coincide with Chinese New Year, with support of its founding directors John Yu and Stephen FitzGerald.[1] It is the aim of the museum to share the Chinese-Australian story and the ambition, resilience and determination of generations of Chinese migrants to Australia.[2]
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore officiated at the opening on 22 February.[3][2]
Exhibitions
[edit]The inaugural exhibition hosted by MOCA is the Haymarket Merchants: The Making of Sydney's Chinatown which features many well-known individuals from the late 19th century and subsequently, as well as featuring lesser known stories.[4]
