Matthew Torbitt born c.1991, is a prominent political commentator who has regularly appeared as a pundit on LBC, Sky News, GB News, BBC Newsnight and TalkTV[1] in support of the Labour Party and once described himself as, "Britain's favourite lefty".[2] He previously worked for Labour MP, Christian Wakeford between 2022 and 2024. Historically he worked with and "remains" a supporter of the former Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham.[2][3][4] In July 2026, Torbitt pleaded guilty to two counts of expense account fraud, while he was employed as a Labour Party, aide.[1]
Personal life
[edit]Torbitt spent part of his teenage years as a rough sleeper, while homeless, before going on to University.[5][2] He now lives in Oxfordshire, and is engaged to former Civil Servant and Human rights activist, Sharon Gaffka. His fiancée appeared within episode 18, of the ITV series, Love Island[6] in 2021.
The couple announced in July 2026, on their Instagram accounts, the birth of their son.[7]
Conviction
[edit]In July 2026, Torbitt pleaded guilty at Thames Magistrates' Court, to two counts of fraud while employed in Parliament by Bury South Labour MP, Christian Wakeford.
More than £6,000 was claimed by false misrepresentation during Torbitt's employment, between 23 August 2022, and 29 September 2024, he is scheduled to be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court, later in 2026.[2]
