Mads Priisholm Bertelsen (born 18 December 1994) is a Danish former footballer who played as a left-back.

In September 2018, he made his debut for the Denmark national team, as the regular squad withdrew following a players' union dispute.

Club career

Bertelsen spent three seasons with Næsby Boldklub between 2013 and 2016 in the Danish 2nd Division before dropping down to the DBU Fyn Serie 2 (seventh tier) to join FC Broby in 2016.[1] He joined FC Svendborg part-way into the 2016–17 Danish 2nd Division season, and he made fifteen league appearances for the club in 2017, debuting during the 0–0 draw against Jammerbugt on 26 March 2017.

Bertelsen then joined Tarup-Paarup IF in June 2017. He debuted on 6 August 2017 during the 4–3 loss against FC Sønderborg,[2] and he scored his first goal for Tarup-Parup IF during the 5–0 victory against Esbjerg fB on 16 June 2018.[3] He won the 2017–18 Denmark Series Group 3 with the club.[4] He scored his only other goal for the club on 8 September 2019 during the 2–0 away victory against Odder.[5] He missed most of 2021–22 due to an injury sustained in August 2021.[6] He returned for the start of the 2022–23 season only to sustain a similar injury on 17 August 2022 against Otterup B&IK which was later career-ending.[7]

He retired from football on 1 August 2024 at the age of 29.

International career

In September 2018, the Danish Football Association and players' union were scheduled to sign a new national team agreement for the players of the Denmark national team before a friendly against Slovakia and their opening UEFA Nations League match against Wales.[8] However, a contract dispute arose regarding the commercial rights of the players, resulting in a failure to sign a new agreement.[9] Despite an offer from the squad to extend the previous deal to allow for further negotiations, the DBU instead named an entirely uncapped squad under the temporary management of coach John Jensen to avoid punishment from UEFA for canceling the matches.[10][11][12] The squad consisted of a mixture of players from the Danish 2nd Division and the Denmark Series (the third and fourth tier of Danish football respectively), along with futsal players from the Denmark national futsal team.[13][14]

On 4 September 2018, Bertelsen was one of 24 players to be named in the replacement squad.[15] The following day, he made his international debut in the friendly match against Slovakia, starting the match before coming off in the 71st minute for club teammate Anders Fønss. The match finished as a 0–3 away loss.[16]
