Johan Lolos (born 1987)[1] is a Belgian-Greek photographer who specializes in travel and landscape photography. He is also known by his social media pseudonym lebackpacker and has been cited as the most-followed Belgian photographer on Instagram.[2] Lolos was born in Liège, Belgium.[1]

Education

[edit]

Lolos earned a master's degree in public relations from the Institut des Hautes Études des Communications Sociales (IHECS) in Brussels in 2013.[3][4]

Career

[edit]

After completing his studies, Lolos embarked on a two-year journey through Australia and New Zealand,[5] during which he honed his landscape photography.[6] His work gained attention on social media platforms, particularly Instagram, where he shares his photographs under the alias lebackpacker.[7] In 2018, Lolos published his first book, Peaks of Europe, documenting a five-month road trip across 17 European countries. The book was released in four languages.[8]

Lolos has collaborated with Toyota,[9] Samsung,[10] Nikon,[11] and Médecins Sans Frontières.[12] He has conducted workshops and mentorship sessions.[13][14] His work has been published in National Geographic,[15] GQ and Lonely Planet. In 2023, Belgian weekly magazine Le Vif included Lolos in its "40 Under 40" list of "40 Belgian Personalities to Watch".[16]
