Gregory Walter Jarrett (born April 7, 1955) is an American news commentator, author and attorney. He joined Fox News Channel as an anchor in 2002. Previously, he was an anchor and correspondent at MSNBC and Court TV, after working for several years at local NBC and ABC TV stations.

Jarrett is known for his criticism of the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 elections. In 2018, he published the #1 New York Times bestseller, The Russia Hoax, which argues that high government officials at the FBI, CIA, and Justice Department abused their positions of power to target Donald Trump with false allegations of Russian collusion while protecting his presidential opponent, Hillary Clinton, from criminal prosecution in her email scandal.

Biography

Jarrett was born in Los Angeles and raised in nearby San Marino, California, graduating from San Marino High School in 1973. He graduated magna cum laude from Claremont McKenna College in 1977 with a degree in political science. He graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1980, and worked as a defense attorney for several years in San Francisco with the firm of Gordon & Rees. As of February 3, 2015, his California State Bar license is listed as "inactive." Jarrett has taught law as an adjunct professor at New York Law School and lectured at other law schools.

Jarrett joined Fox News as an anchor in November 2002. He covered the Iraq War as a correspondent based in Baghdad in May and June of 2003.  While embedded with the Second Brigade of the Third Infantry Division, he was among the first journalists to report from Fallujah. 

In 2017, Jarrett became a legal analyst for both FNC and the Fox Business Network, offering commentary on trials, Supreme Court rulings and criminal justice issues. 

His legal analysis was featured regularly during the Trump impeachments, as well as the civil and criminal cases brought against the then-former president in the run up to the 2024 election. 

His frequent opinion columns appear on the Fox News website. He has hosted several documentaries for Fox Nation, the network’s on-demand streaming service. Jarrett has published four books while at Fox News.        

Prior to joining Fox, Jarrett worked at MSNBC (1999-2002) as an anchor and correspondent covering stories that included the 2000 U.S. presidential election controversy in Florida. He was anchoring the morning of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks by al Qaeda. Jarrett also served as correspondent during the Second Intifada in late 2001, reporting and anchoring “live” newscasts from Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.

The Nation, a prominent progressive publication, wrote that “Jarrett did an extraordinary job of capturing the grievances on both sides.” 

Jarrett worked at Court TV for eight years (1991-1999) as the anchor of Prime Time Justice.  He hosted the network’s nationally syndicated half-hour magazine show, Inside America’s Courts, which was seen daily on broadcast stations (NBC in New York City and Los Angeles) and weekends on CNBC. Jarrett was an anchor on location in Los Angeles for the O.J. Simpson double murder trial in 1995.  He covered other major trials involving Lyle and Erik Menendez, William Kennedy Smith, Jeffrey Dahmer, Rodney King, and sportscaster Marv Albert.

Prior to Court TV, Jarrett worked as an anchor and reporter for a number of local stations, including KCSM-TV in San Francisco, California; WMDT-TV in Salisbury Maryland; WKFT-TV in Fayetteville, North Carolina and KSNW-TV in Wichita, Kansas. While at KSNW, he received a Heartland Emmy Award for his “Turnpike Tornado” news story.

Published Books

Jarrett’s first book, The Russia Hoax: The Illicit Scheme To Clear Hillary Clinton And Frame Donald Trump, was published in July of 2018 and ranked #1 on The New York Times Bestseller list and remained a bestseller for 10 straight weeks.  It was among the top selling non-fiction books of the year. The U.S. Review of Books described it as “perhaps the most insightful and clearest description of what happened.

The next year, Jarrett wrote a sequel, Witch Hunt: The Story Of The Greatest Mass Delusion In American Political History.  It was published in October of 2019 and debuted at #3 on The New York Times Bestseller list.  A review in The American Spectator stated that “history will have Gregg Jarrett’s Witch Hunt to remind —on the record— of what really happened and who, really was responsible for this disgrace…and why.”

Jarrett’s third book was The Trial Of The Century about the iconic “Scopes Monkey Trial” that pitted evolution against creationism and famed lawyers Clarence Darrow vs. William Jennings Bryan.  Released in May of 2023, Publishers Weekly called it “colorful and dramatic” and added that “those new to the case will be especially rewarded by this solid look back at one of the most consequential free speech debates in American history.” Kirkus Reviews described it as “an instructive history with a disturbing coda.”

Also in 2023, Jarrett published The Constitution of the United States And Other Patriotic Documents, “Collected and Explained by Gregg Jarrett.”  The volume is a compilation of foundational American texts that explore the principles and values that shaped our constitutional republic.  Included are speeches and writings from Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Albert Einstein, Franklin Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, among more than two dozen historical figures.

Personal life

Jarrett married Catherine Kennedy Anderson September 11, 1993 at Calvary Episcopal Church in New York. They have two children.
