Dris Mohamed Amar (Arabic: دريس محمد عمار) is a Spanish politician and community activist. He is the founder and leader of the Andalusi Party (Partido Andalusí), a political group formed in 2023 that merges Andalusian nationalism with Islamic humanism.[1][2]
Early life and activism
[edit]Born in Ceuta, Dris Mohamed worked professionally as a mechanic.[2] In Algeciras, he was the representative for the Asociación Socio Cultural El Saladillo, a neighborhood association.[1] He also served as a spokesperson for the local Islamic community in Algeciras, and denounced threats following the 2023 Algeciras church attacks.[1]
Political career
[edit]In 2019, Dris Mohamed entered electoral politics as a candidate for mayor of Algeciras representing the Party of Renaissance and European Union (PRUNE), a political formation centered around the political articulation of Islam in mainland Spain.[1]
In 2023, he founded the Andalusi Party alongside Alejandro Delmás, the grandson of Blas Infante (the historical father of Andalusian nationalism). The party defines its core ideology as "Islamic humanism" and draws inspiration from Blas Infante's nationalist ideas.[1]
Under his leadership, the party has put forward notable and controversial proposals, including:
- Granting co-official language status to Arabic in the Andalusia region.[1]
- Re-annexing the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, as well as the Canary Islands, into the autonomous community of Andalusia.[1]
- Campaigning in the 2026 Andalusian regional elections under a platform combining regional nationalism with Islamic social and cultural rights.[1][2]
