Saam Sultan (born 6 November 2005) is an American-born British rapper, singer and music producer.[1] Raised across Brighton and London, he initially gained recognition with the release of his singles "Ydoifeel?" and "Locked In Love" (stylized in lowercase), which secured a spot on the NME 100 list in early 2026.[2][3] Known for blending ambient, soft-edged textures with trap rhythms, Sultan released his debut EP Seraphim via Darkroom Records.[4][5]

Early Life

[edit]

Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he spent his early childhood moving between the United States and Barbados.[2] At age ten, his family faced severe financial hardship after his father lost his job, prompting a permanent relocation to Brighton, England.[2] During his formative years, his mother introduced him to a wide, eclectic range of genres, including Persian music, Motown, Latin and J-Pop.[2] At age seventeen, he dropped out of college to pursue music, commuting between Brighton and London for recording sessions.[1][2]

Artistry

[edit]

Sultan's music draws from the orchestral film-score of Hans Zimmer, the psychedelic atmosphere of Pink Floyd and the cloud-rap production pioneered by Clams Casino early on in A$AP Rocky's career.[1] NME states that his biggest song, "Locked In Love", contains a "signature soft-focus style" characterising his approach to the UK cloud-rap revival.[2] However, other music outlets have noted a later trajectory shift seen in later tracks such as "Crocodile Woman", which shows he is experimenting with different styles, as heard from its alternative R&B textures reminiscent of Frank Ocean.[6]

He has also cited Queen, Marvin Gaye, Lil Wayne, Playboi Carti, OutKast and Flume as being influential on his sound.[1]
