Biography
[edit]Rafig Aliyev was born on 10 February 1942 in the village of Novruzlu in the Agdam district of Azerbaijan. Between 1948 and 1958, he attended secondary school in Agdam, graduating with honors. From 1958 to 1963, he studied at the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry named after M. Azizbayov, graduating with an honors diploma. Between 1964 and 1967, he was a postgraduate student at the Institute of Control Sciences of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow. He received the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in 1967 and the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in 1975. From 1967 to 1969, he headed a scientific research laboratory at the Neftkimyaavtomat Scientific Research and Design Institute. He became a professor in 1976. In 1989, he was elected a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. From 1989 to 2011, he served as head of the Department of Automatic Control Systems at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. Since 1998, he has served as director of the joint MBA program of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and Georgia State University (Atlanta, USA), and since 2001, as director of the BBA program of these universities.
He has played a leading role in organizing scientific research in the fields of informatics and control in Azerbaijan and in many foreign countries. He has supervised more than 130 Candidates of Sciences and 25 Doctors of Sciences in Azerbaijan, Russia, Germany, and Iran. His students currently work not only in Azerbaijan but also in countries such as the United States, Germany, Turkey, Russia, and Iran.
Since 1994, he has directly led the organization of international scientific conferences under the title "Application of Fuzzy Systems" in various European countries. Since 2000, he has organized the biennial international conference "Application of Fuzzy Systems and Soft Computing" in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, and, also since 2000, the biennial international conference "Computing with Words and Soft Computing in System Analysis, Decision Making and Control" in Antalya.
He is the author of approximately 70 books and more than 350 scientific articles devoted to informatics and control, artificial intelligence, fuzzy logic, and soft computing.
