Optimus Technologies, Inc. is an American clean energy technology company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2010, the company designs and manufactures fuel system technology that enables heavy-duty diesel engines to operate on 100% biodiesel (B100).

History

Optimus Technologies was founded in 2010 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by Colin Huwyler, who serves as the company's chief executive officer. The company was established to address carbon emissions in commercial transportation sectors that are difficult to electrify.

In April 2023, the company closed a $17.8 million Series A funding round. <Quote>“The investment was led by Mitsui & Co.”</Quote> along with participation from Chevron Renewable Energy Group and regional entities like the Richard King Mellon Foundation and Innovation Works.^[1]

In December 2025, Optimus Technologies signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Japanese conglomerate Mitsui & Co. Under the agreement, <Quote>“Mitsui secured the exclusive rights as a distributor of Optimus' Vector System and related products in Japan, India, and ASEAN countries.”</Quote>^[2]

Technology

The company's primary product is the Vector System, a bolt-on fuel system upgrade for existing or new medium- and heavy-duty diesel engines. The system manages and conditions biofuel, allowing fleets to operate on 100% biogenic fuel (B100) even in harsh or low-temperature weather conditions.^[3]

Partnerships and Operations

The company partners with commercial fleets, agricultural companies, and municipal governments. Notable deployments and partnerships include:

ADM Trucking: Completed a 1.3-million-mile study evaluating the operational performance of the Vector System.
Sunoil Biodiesel: Established a commercial partnership to scale B100 adoption in heavy-duty fleets across the Netherlands.
Perdue Farms: Partnered with the Maryland Soybean Board to deploy a fleet of 100% biodiesel-powered transport trucks.
