Life
[edit]Mubarak Mahal was from a family which who claimed Sayyid lineage. (descended from the Prophet). She was admitted into the imperial harem while Shah Alam was seeking the help of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula and was encampmented with his troops at Miranpur.[1] Right after she entered the harem, she accompanied him and his fleet from Miranpur, to Rohilkhand, and eventually Awadh, where Shuja ud Daula received Shah Alam with complete ceremony on 2nd January, 1759.[2]
On the occasion of Rakhsha Bandhan, Raja Shankar Nath had the princes send nine rakhis to Mubarak Mahal, and personally tied a rakhi on the emperor's wrist.[3]
Next to the eastern gateway of the Dargah at Mehrauli stands Mubarak Mahal's tomb and garden.[4]
