Milo Rossi (Born December 16th, 1999), known professionally as Miniminuteman, is an American science communicator, archaeologist, and Internet personality.
He is known for creating educational content about archaeology and anthropology on social media platforms such as TikTok and YouTube, where he discusses archaeological discoveries and critiques pseudoscientific claims related to history and archaeology.
He is notable for helping organizations like Save the Children, GlobalGiving and Crisis relief to raise $80.000 to support the victims of the 2023 Turkey-Syria Earthquake.[2][3] While Rossi himself did not directly raise any money, he did make people aware of the damage the Earthquake caused, and directed their attention to the donation sites.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Rossi was born and raised outside of Boston. In 2022, he graduated UMaine with a Degree in Anthropology and Environmental Science. His Anthropology professor, Daniel Sandweiss, credited him as having "a deep understanding of the difference between Science and Pseudoscience, and a compelling screen presence to become the most viewed real archaeologist today."[4]
Internet Career
[edit]In 2021, Rossi created a TikTok channel under the Pseudonym "Miniminuteman". This is a combination of the word "mini" and the name of the Minutemen, who were War Militia in the American Revolution. The origin of the name has not been publicly explained.
He started off posting regular Videos on TikTok, but turned to Archaeology and debunking false claims a few Videos later. He started by talking about the Confederacy and how its flag is misrepresented as an icon of history, whereas he argues it should be associated as a Symbol of Racism due to the Confederates fighting for slavery.
He started talking about Anthropology when discussing a TikTok comment that stated Native Americans didn't exist. After that he would switch his Channel to mainly discussing Anthropology and Archaeology. He switched from just debunking theories to talking about Archaeology altogether. Around that time he also started his YouTube channel by the same Name. He would do most of the same Videos there, just in long form.
He has gained a large following on both Platforms, with over 2 Million followers each. He currently specializes on debunking Pseudoarcheology and talking about Archaeology.
Scientific Career
[edit]While making content on YouTube and TikTok, Milo is also a full-time Anthropologist, quoted by National Geographic, stating that Methods of scanning below Pyramids "have never been confirmed or proven, nor have they been independently verified."[5]
He has spoken at the Society for American archaeology, along with Flint Dibble and Andrew Kinkella,[6] at the Hudson Museum[7] and at the Penn Museum[8]. He has given multiple talks at various Universities, including his Alma Mater UMaine[4], the University of Kansas[9] and Harvard[10]
