Mediaweb is a Portuguese digital company specialising in UX/UI design and front-end development for low-code platforms such as OutSystems and Mendix, as well as custom development using modern web technologies like React and JavaScript.[1]
In 2024 the company joined the technology investment group Growset.[2] Mediaweb also appears on Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 2023 Portugal list, which brings together Portugal's fastest growing tech companies.[3] The company develops and maintains Rocket UI, an interface framework distributed on the OutSystems Forge marketplace,[4][5] and counts among its long standing clients Wodify, a US based gym management software company used by roughly five thousand facilities worldwide.[6]
History
[edit]Founding
[edit]Mediaweb was founded in Leiria in 2006 by Nelson Rodrigues together with two colleagues, shortly after Nelson, then 20 years old, completed a vocational IT course. None of the founders had a university degree or prior professional experience in the field.[3] In its early years the company worked as an independent web developer building websites for businesses, at a time when the creation of institutional websites was expanding in Portugal.[3]
In 2012 the company took on its first low-code projects with OutSystems, which gave it greater visibility and recognition. According to founder Nelson Rodrigues, because at the time generally only large companies could afford OutSystems licenses, Mediaweb's front-end and visual design work, the part of a project engineering teams often prefer not to handle, became more valued among those clients.[3]
At that time Nelson was studying Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, which he ultimately left to spend more time in Lisbon and devote himself to the business. The two colleagues he had founded the company with eventually left, and Inês Neves joined the company, becoming essential to its management.[3]
Growth
[edit]Between 2021 and 2024 Mediaweb doubled its revenue, reaching an annual turnover of close to 1.5 million euros, and entered Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 2023 Portugal list.[3] At the start of 2024 the company had 39 employees.[3] To mark its 18th anniversary the company rebranded and projected 20% revenue growth for the year.[3]
At the end of 2024 Mediaweb's leadership consisted of Nelson Rodrigues (CEO and founder), Inês Neves (general manager) and João Prior (business developer and strategist).[6] The company describes itself as specialising in creating digital experiences focused on usability and user experience, primarily supporting large scale clients in the design and implementation of their digital systems.[6]
Among its long standing clients is Wodify, a company based in Philadelphia, United States, whose gym management system is used by roughly five thousand facilities worldwide. Mediaweb's work began by aligning Wodify's software with a new brand identity and evolved into modernising the software and improving the user experience.[6] Although the company's core business has a strong presence in low-code technologies such as OutSystems and Mendix, its leadership states that its design and development principles are applied across the board regardless of technology.[6]
Joining the Growset group
[edit]In 2024 Mediaweb joined Growset, a technology investment and consulting group founded by João Prior (former associate partner at Deloitte), Frederico Mangas (founder in 2014 of Indigo, a low-code professional services company) and Nelson Rodrigues, described at the time as having 18 years of experience in the technology sector.[2] Growset operates as a venture builder and equity holding manager, aiming to invest 10 million euros over two years in technology services companies in the low-code and artificial intelligence fields, from pre-seed to scale-up stage, always acquiring partial rather than full stakes in the businesses it invests in.[2] At launch Growset's portfolio comprised seven companies: Indigo, Mediaweb, Trusted, Burgundy, Retone, Nexa and Spread, with combined revenue exceeding 10 million euros, 75% of which came from international markets.[2] According to Growset co-founder João Prior, the partnership helped Mediaweb open up markets in the Middle East and the United States.[2]
Also in 2024, Mediaweb invested in improvements to Rocket UI, refreshed its brand and website and adjusted the way it delivers services, beginning to integrate artificial intelligence into the software and systems it builds for clients.[6] For 2025 company leadership set goals to strengthen the team in sales, international presence, technical staff and customer support, expand its services to turnkey projects focused on user experience, and broaden its offering of integrated solutions combining design, development and artificial intelligence.[6]
Artificial intelligence services
[edit]Mediaweb launched UX Driven AI, a service that combines artificial intelligence and design to create smarter more personalised digital experiences, applied in sectors such as banking, insurance and retail, and used by both domestic and international clients. The service is led by Ricardo Luiz.[7]As part of this service the company developed an AI based customer support chatbot, described by Nelson Rodrigues as built on UX/UI principles to ensure natural efficient interactions and reduce the need for human intervention in repetitive requests, as well as an AI driven phone support system.[7]
Products
[edit]Rocket UI
[edit]Rocket UI is an interface framework developed and maintained by Mediaweb that extends the native OutSystems UI framework. There is also a Rocket UI Style Guide application used to browse and apply Rocket UI.[4][5] According to Mediaweb the framework works on OutSystems and Mendix, with React support in development, and offers designers and developers pre-built components designed to speed up front-end and design work.[3]
Digital accessibility
[edit]Mediaweb is also a partner of Deque Systems, an accessibility technology company, holding "Reseller" status with a service area in Portugal.[1] According to Deque, Mediaweb operates at the intersection of usability accessibility and performance, creating fast intuitive and scalable digital experiences, and supports product owners designers and programmers with services ranging from design systems and accessibility audits to AI enhanced UX solutions.[1]
