Draft:MF Jantar Unity

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MF Jantar Unity is a ropax ferry operated by POLSCA Baltic Ferries on the route from Świnoujście to Ystad. She is the largest ferry in the POLSCA fleet, at over 48000 GT.

Namesake

[edit]

"Jantar" is a literary Polish term for amber; the same naming convention is used in relation to Jantar Unity's sisters, Bursztyn Unity and Amber Unity ("bursztyn" pol. amber). The "Unity" part refers to the ship's initial operator, Unity Line, which merged with Polferries in 2026 to form POLSCA.

History

[edit]

Built in 2025 by Gdańsk Shipyard, Jantar Unity is the first national-built Maritime ferry for a Polish operator in 46 years[1] after MF Silesia in 1979. She underwent sea trials in Autumn 2025[2] and was christened in Szczecin on 17 January 2026. [3]Placed initially on the Świnoujście - Trelleborg line, she now runs from Świnoujście to Ystad.

Characteristics

[edit]

The Jantar Unity is LNG/diesel-powered vessel with 4 Wartsila engines, 2 bow azipods and 2 electric stern thrusters, which increase port maneuverability. She can capacitate 400 passengers and 4100 lane metres of freight[4]. Her gross tonnage of 48627 makes her the largest ferry in the POLSCA fleet, and the second-largest ferry to operate from Poland following TT-Line's Peter Pan 2022-class. Jantar Unity has a length of 195,6 metres, a breadth of 31,6 and draft of 6,3 metres.[4] Her homeport is Limassol, Cyprus. Maximum service speed is 19 knots (35 km/h).
