Comment: Vague and superficial analysis such as The chair has been featured in international design magazines including Elle Decoration España and Elle Decoration NL, where it is presented in the context of sustainable and circular design practices
is characteristic of LLM usage, you should ideally remove all text from the draft and start over from a blank slate without LLMs. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 01:45, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Helpful Raccoon: Thank you for taking the time to review. I have rewritten the draft in a shorter furniture-object style and resubmitted it for review. ~2026-36208-90 (talk) 18:49, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

Kelp Chair is a chair designed by Alexander Westerlund in 2021 and developed with Interesting Times Gang.[1][2] Made from recycled fishing-net plastic and wood fibre using large-scale 3D printing, the chair was originally designed for Black Milk Gastro Bar in Stockholm.[3] Examples are held by the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.[1][2]
Design
[edit]The chair originated as a design for Black Milk Gastro Bar, a Stockholm restaurant project by chefs Niclas Jönsson and Daniel Höglander.[3][4]
The chair is made from recycled fishing-net plastic and wood fibre and formed through large-scale 3D printing.[5][6][7] The Röhsska Museum describes the fishing nets as coming from Scandinavian waters and records the material as including bio-based composite.[2] Nationalmuseum records a 2021 example as measuring 84 cm × 40 cm × 50 cm (33 in × 16 in × 20 in) and weighing about 10 kg (22 lb).[1]
The chair's curved form refers to kelp and other marine vegetation. Westerlund told Lianhe Zaobao that the shape was based on the movement of kelp in water.[8] Marie Claire also described the chair in relation to algae-inspired form.[9] Arkitektur reported that the chair was in use at Black Milk Gastro Bar and that its curved form contributed to its structural strength.[10]
The chair's material can be ground down and reused in later production.[3][7]
Recognition
[edit]In 2022, House & Garden included the Kelp Chair in its Design 100 list.[11] The chair received a German Design Award in 2024.[12] In 2025, an essay in the peer-reviewed ZoneModa Journal cited the Kelp Chair in a discussion of sustainable design and Green Good Design Award recipients.[13]
Collections
[edit]The Kelp Chair is represented in the collections of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm[1] and the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.[2]
