InsuranceDekho is an Indian insurtech company and insurance distribution platform headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana.[1]

Founded in 2016 by Ankit Agrawal and Ish Babbar, the company allows customers to compare, purchase, and renew insurance policies from multiple insurers through its digital platform and partner network.[2]

InsuranceDekho operates under the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) licence held by Girnar Insurance Brokers Private Limited.

History

[edit]

InsuranceDekho began in 2016 as the insurance division of the CarDekho Group, founded by Ankit Agrawal and Ish Babbar, with the aim of simplifying insurance purchases by letting customers compare policies from different insurers online.[2]

In 2020, the company obtained its IRDAI licence via Girnar Insurance Brokers Private Limited.[1] It initially focused on motor insurance before expanding into health, life, travel, pet, and business insurance products.[3]

In the 2021 financial year, InsuranceDekho's annual premium exceeded ₹1200 crore,[4] and it expanded its Point of Sale Person (POSP) partner network into Tier II, Tier III, and rural markets.[5]

In February 2023, the company raised US$150 million in a Series A funding round led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and TVS Capital Funds to support expansion, technology development, and its distribution network.[6]

During the 2025 financial year, the company launched Heph, a software-as-a-service platform for insurance distribution and servicing,[7] received Great Place to Work certification,[8]

Leadership

[edit]

InsuranceDekho was co-founded in 2016 by Ankit Agrawal, who serves as Co-founder and CEO,[9] and Ish Babbar, who serves as Co-founder.[10]

Operations

[edit]

InsuranceDekho operates an omnichannel insurance distribution platform combining digital technology with assisted advisory services, distributing products through its digital platform and an offline partner network across India.[11]

As of the 2026 financial year, the company reported operations in around 1,500 cities,[12] reaching 98% of Indian postal (PIN) codes,[13] supported by 21 offices and a network of over 200,000 partners,[14] and stated it had insured more than 12,000 businesses.[15]

Funding

[edit]

InsuranceDekho was initially funded internally within the CarDekho Group before raising outside institutional capital.[16]

In February 2023, the company raised US$150 million in its first institutional round (Series A), led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and TVS Capital Funds, with participation from Investcorp, Avataar Ventures, and LeapFrog Investments.[6]

In October 2023, InsuranceDekho raised an additional US$60 million in an ongoing Series B round from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), BNP Paribas Cardif, Beams Fintech Fund, the Yogesh Mahansaria Family Office, and existing investors.[17]

In March 2025, the company raised a further US$70 million co-led by MUFG, BNP Paribas Cardif, and Beams Fintech Fund to support growth, technology investment, and market expansion.[18]

Acquisitions

[edit]

Verak

[edit]

In April 2023, InsuranceDekho acquired Verak, an insurance distribution platform focused on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to strengthen its presence in SME and corporate insurance.[19] Verak's technology and customer base were integrated into InsuranceDekho's platform.[19]
