Divia Thani is a travel editor who currently serves as the Global Editorial Director of Condé Nast Traveller.[1]
Career
[edit]Thani was part of the launch team for Time Out magazine in Mumbai, eventually overseeing multiple sections as Lifestyle Editor.[2] In 2007, Thani joined the launch team of Vogue India, later becoming Features Editor. During her time at Vogue, she interviewed public figures including the author Jhumpa Lahiri and the actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.[3] In 2010, Thani was selected to launch Condé Nast Traveller in India. She was the youngest editor-in-chief of Condé Nast Traveler at the time.[4]
In 2020, Thani moved to London to lead Condé Nast Traveler globally as Global Editorial Director.[5] She oversees eight editions of the brand – US, UK, Italy, Spain, India, China, the Middle East and Germany, which launched in 2024.[6] She is the first Indian editor to hold a Global Editorial Director position at Condé Nast.[7]
In 2023, Thani was awarded Travel Editor of the Year as well as the inaugural DEI Leadership Award from the British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME).[8]
Personal life
[edit]Thani was raised in Mumbai, India before moving to the United States for her higher education.[9] Thani graduated summa cum laude and received her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.[10] She later received the university's inaugural Sheth International Young Alumni Achievement Award and has served on the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee.[4]
