Cow Chop was a Youtube channel, part of Rooster Teeth's Let's Play network. The channel was founded by James "Uberhaxornova" Wilson and Aleksandr "ImmortalHD" Merchant after the pair left The Creatures, another Let's Play channel of which they were both members. The group had several other members, including Brett Hundley, a former producer at Machinima, and Intern Joe, another former member of The Creatures. The channel was formed in April of 2016, and ended in December of 2019.

History

On April 1st, 2016, James tweeted a link to the Cow Chop Channel after teasing his and Aleks' departure from The Creatures for roughly a month. Because of the timing, many thought that it was an April Fools joke. However, thoughout the month, several more videos were uploaded to the channel. At the end of April, The Creatures uploaded a video confirming that Aleks, James, and Joe were no longer involved with The Creatures. They also brought on an editor, Trevor, who was a friend of the group. At the same time they announced their departure, they were revealed they were joining the Let's Play network. The first several uploads were recorded in the Creatures office, until production moved into a house in Colorado. At this time, Brett officially joined the group, along with Aron, a friend of James'. On June 1st, 2016, the group (excluding Aron and Trevor, as they were unable to come) attended RTX in Austin, Texas, this being their first convention as their newly formed group. Around this time, they hired two editors, Asher and Anna, to help out with uploads. After having their lease terminated in February of 2017 due to complaints about their behavior, they were forced to record videos at James' home until something could be figured out. After a few months, the group was able to rent out a barn to record in, and moved all production there. In April of that same year, the group announced they would be moving to LA, as a part of Rooster Teeth's RT LA department, alongside Funhaus and Sugar Pine 7. Deciding not to move along with them, both Aron and Jorel stopped working for the channel. Upon arrival in LA, Lindsay Washburn, another former producer from Machinima, began working on the channel. In May of 2017, Jakob and Alec began working for the channel, initially as editors, but soon both became on screen personalities. Around this same time, a production assistant by the name of Matt began working for the channel. On July 7th, 2017, Cow Chop attended their second RTX, this time with all members being present, though only some appeared on stage during their panel. In November of 2017, Joe announced he would no longer be apart of the channel, and would be moving back to Colorado to be with his family and get his college degree. On April 30th, 2018, it was announced that Trevor would be leaving the channel, due to the stress of being on screen and constant workloads. On March 19, 2019, James announced he would be departing the channel after taking a leave of absence due to an injury. He stated that he had tried to leave multiple times, but had forced himself to stay. He also stated that he wanted to get away from being in groups, after being in groups for 9 years, and wanted to focus on his solo career. In July of the same year, Aleks confirmed that the channel was going to be coming to an end, stating that that years RTX Panel would be there last. This came after months of speculation of the channel disbanding, and several discussions of the groups future, with Aleks stating that they would continue uploading until their contract with Rooster Teeth ended, and would continue making decisions from there. On April 8th, 2019, Jakob announced that he and Alec would be starting a new channel called OFFCANNY. He stated that, for the time being, both would continue working at Cow Chop, and would simply be doing their own content on the side. Also around this time, Garrett began working at Cow Chop as an editor and on-screen personality. In June of that year, a new cameraperson and editor, Adri, began working at Cow Chop. On October 5th, Alec announced he would be leaving Cow Chop to pursue OFFCANNY full time. However, Jakob remained on the channel until the end of December. On October 30th, Lindsey announced she would be leaving Cow Chop, moving to Funhaus as a production assistant. In November, both Garrett and Adri began making videos with OFFCANNY, though both continued to work at Cow Chop as well. Throughout the month of December, the remaining members brought many long running series too a close, culminating in their final video on December 31st. This final video was a sequel to their first video, a faux-interview with Aleks on the future of the channel and the successes that it brought.
