Charlie Polinger

Charlie Polinger is a writer and director based in New York, described by The New York Times as "a wunderkind." His debut feature film, THE PLAGUE, premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival to critical acclaim. It went on to win Best Picture at Fantastic Fest and Deauville, was acquired by IFC Films, and released theatrically Christmas 2025. The film earned Charlie the DGA Best First Feature, along with three 2026 Independent Spirit Award nominations (including best feature), and numerous critics' and festival prizes.

Charlie received his MFA in Film Directing from the AFI Conservatory, where he won the Schaffner Prize for excellence in directing. His short film A PLACE TO STAY won the ASC Award for Best Cinematography, and his shorts have been featured as a Vimeo Staff Pick and Short of the Week, screening at festivals including SXSW, AFI Fest, Palm Springs, and Warsaw.

His theater credits include Cory Finley's The Private Sector (Theater for the New City) and Animals (Ars Nova), Deb Margolin's Turquoise (Dixon Place), Matthew George's Cow Play (NYC Fringe Festival), and Independents (NYT Critics' Pick). For his multimedia work, he was awarded the Future of Storytelling grant by Melcher Media.

Charlie is currently in post production on his next feature, THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH, for A24 based on Edgar Allen Poe's short story of the same name. Mikey Madison and Léa Seydoux will star. Additionally, he is writing the BRATZ movie for Amazon.
