Charlie O'Shea (born 13 August 2006) is an Irish rugby union player who plays as an out-half for United Rugby Championship side Munster. He is a member of the Munster academy and plays his club rugby for UCC RFC.

Early life

[edit]

O'Shea came through the underage ranks at Dolphin RFC in Cork and was educated at Christian Brothers College, Cork (CBC). He captained CBC to the Munster Schools Rugby Senior Cup title in 2025, having also reached the final in 2023 and 2024.[1]

Club career

[edit]

UCC

[edit]

O'Shea joined UCC RFC for the 2025–26 season, his first in senior rugby, and made 15 appearances in the All-Ireland League.[1]

Munster

[edit]

In August 2026 O'Shea was one of eight players to join the Munster academy ahead of the 2026–27 season.[1] With first-choice out-half Jack Crowley ruled out until the new year and Tom Wood also sidelined, O'Shea was handed an early opportunity, starting the pre-season fixture against Leicester Tigers at Musgrave Park in September 2026.[2]

He was named among the replacements for Munster's URC opener against Glasgow Warriors at Thomond Park on 26 September 2026.[3]

O'Shea made his first competitive start the following week, on 3 October 2026, partnering captain Craig Casey at half-back against the Bulls at Thomond Park. He scored two tries, set up another and kicked three conversions as Munster won 26–22 to claim a bonus-point victory.[4][5]

International career

[edit]

O'Shea represented Ireland at under-20 level during the 2025–26 season, including at the 2026 World Rugby U20 Championship in Georgia.[1]
