Ali Yavari is an Australian computer scientist and telecommunications researcher at Swinburne University of Technology. He is the founding director of the university's 6G Research and Innovation Laboratory and a recipient of the Victorian Government's Victoria Fellowship in Physical Sciences. His research focuses on wireless communications, the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, 6G, contextualization, emergency communications, artificial intelligence, and digital twins.[1][2][3]
Career
[edit]Yavari received a Master of Science in Communication Systems from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden before completing a PhD in Computer Science at RMIT University. His doctoral research examined Internet of Things data contextualisation for scalable information processing, security and privacy.[4]
Prior to joining Swinburne University of Technology, Yavari worked as a research engineer at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.[5]
Earlier in his career, Yavari contributed to the development of IoT-based wearable safety technologies for the mining industry. In 2015, his team won the Unearthed Melbourne Hackathon for developing PPEofThings, a wearable safety system for mine workers.[6][7][8][9][10]
Media
[edit]Yavari has been repeatedly interviewed and quoted by Australian media as an expert on telecommunications and digital infrastructure. His commentary has focused on Australia's AusAlert emergency warning system, mobile network resilience, mobile coverage, the shutdown of 3G networks, and the deployment of 5G and 6G technologies.[11][12][13][14]
His interviews and commentary have appeared in ABC News, Yahoo News Australia, Sky News Australia, FiveAA, Body+Soul, commercial radio, podcasts, and other Australian media.[15][16][17][18][19]
