The 1992 Mashhad protests resulted from protests of the marginalized residents in the Tarlab region in Iran. It eventually turned into a demonstration of several tens of thousands of people, with slogans against the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and attacks on government buildings. In response, the government deployed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to suppress the demonstrations. Four protersters were executed, with Ali Khamenei urging security forces to "mow them like weeds".[1]
At the time, security forces and three civilians were killed, 300 people were imprisoned, and the city suffered 10 billion Iranian rials in damage. Shortly after, Ali Jannati was dismissed as governor of Khorasan.[2][3][4]
