Amanvari

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amanvari is a resort located in Los Cabos, Mexico within the Costa Palmas development. The hotel is managed by the Aman Resorts group and opened in August 2026. The hotel is Aman's first hotel in Mexico.

History

[edit]

Aman announced that a hotel in Mexico was in the pipeline in 2018.[1] In 2025, the hotel dubbed Amanvari was expected to open in Spring 2026.[2] The hotel eventually opened on August 1, 2026.[3] The hotel is Aman's first property in Mexico and contains 18 rooms along with residences.[4] According to the Wall Street Journal, the opening was "supposed to be the hottest hotel opening of the year".[5]

On August 4, 2026, hotel and hospitality reviewer Ryan Walker arrived to check in as part of a pre-arranged review of the property. He was informed there was no reservation on file. Walker attempted to sort this misunderstanding by asking security to contact the manager. Instead security called Mexican police, telling him to vacate the property. Walker later was able to ascertain the establishment sent an email the night before his arrival informing him his stay was cancelled.[6] Walker surmised the property was not ready for reviews, but criticized the last moment cancellation and the resorts decision to continue taking reservations and charging full-price, if the resort was unprepared for a "hard-opening."[7] The incident was widely reported on and Aman did not initially provide a response or rebuttle to Walker's video.[8] According to the Wall Street Journal, the internet took Walker's side in what it described as a "viral controversy".[9]

Commenting on the controversy, French luxury hotel magazine, La Revue des Hǒtels commented:

The backlash surrounding this case will likely prompt hotel management teams to clarify their internal guidelines. The coexistence of respecting guest privacy and accommodating videographers requires explicit rules communicated right at booking. Front-desk and security teams must receive training tailored to de-escalating tensions at the entrance.[10]

Name

[edit]

The name Amanvari combines the Sanskrit words for "peace" and "water".[11]
