Aeopolus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Greek mythology, Aeopolus (Ancient Greek: Αἰπόλος, gen.: Αἰοπόλου, romanized: Aipolus or Aiopólos, lit. 'goatherd'[1]) was the father of Cleobule, one of the possible mother of Myrtilus by Hermes. He was also called Aeolus.[2][non-primary source needed]

Notes

[edit]
  1. ↑ The name comes from Aix (αἴξ), Greek word meaning "goat" and Polos (πόλος) / Poleo (πολέω), derived from tending, driving, or roaming about (as in a herdsman).
  2. ↑ Tzetzes on Lycophron, 157; Scholia on Euripides, Orestes 990.
