Unwarranted inheritance between Category:Spanish-language television shows and Category:Mexican television shows

[edit]

Right now, Category:Mexican television shows belongs to Category:Spanish-language television shows. That does not seem appropriate to me, because there exist Mexican shows (such as Baktun (TV series), five layers beneath Category:Mexican television shows) which are not in Spanish. Would the following be a suitable remedy?

This would allow shows like Baktun to be severed from the Spanish-language category tree. I don't want to over-complicate; perhaps there is a simpler solution? What do others think? Regards, Btyner (talk) 14:16, 20 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Looking at Category:English-language American television shows for example, it does not have any sub-categories other than categories for a specific show. So probably (for now) the easiest-safest approach would be to follow this. Gonnym (talk) 15:07, 20 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Is it best to go through Categories for Discussion (CfD)? If approved there, I heard it can be used to enlist bots which can automatically move pages into the new category? Btyner (talk) 00:28, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't think a bot can do this as it requires checking each page to see what language it is and probably not all are set correctly as evidence by your original post. Gonnym (talk) 13:42, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Then I think CfD is the only venue where this effort will get enough attention. Post-closure, it would be listed at WP:CFDWM for cleanup. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 18:42, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done Option 2. I've since removed the category relation. As I explained in my edit, language does not logically imply location or vice versa. These category relations have stood for a while now throughout the system and I have been correcting them wherever I find them. Οἶδα (talk) 05:27, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request for freely licensed photos: four road infrastructure articles

[edit]

Hello all,

I'm working on several articles about road infrastructure in the Valley of Mexico metropolitan area and the State of Mexico, and they currently lack free images due to a recent dispute on Wikimedia Commons involving previously uploaded files (several were nominated for deletion and some have already been removed). For this reason, I need to rebuild the photographic coverage of these articles with genuinely free material.

The articles that need photographs are:

If anyone has their own photographs of these roadways (segments, interchanges, tunnels, bridges, toll plazas, signage, aerial views, etc.) and is willing to license them freely on Commons, that would be a great help. I'd also appreciate any leads on photographers, drone operators, or social media accounts who might be willing to donate material under a free license.

Thanks in advance for any support. —Markocortesa2 (talk) 22:23, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for posting. I don't live in Mexico City but I wonder if any of our editors based there could help you. I saw you posted this on Spanish WP too so thank you for that. Do you have any social media accounts identified? I can help you reaching out to them. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 22:29, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for replying, Morogris! I've checked out drone YouTube channels, but they don't have open-source licenses under Creative Commons. However, I would like to know if there are any Mexican editors or people residing in Mexico City or the Valley of Mexico who have photos of these roads, or who personally visit these roads, to document them. Any help is welcome! Markocortesa2 (talk) 22:38, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Why are these articles tagged with maintenance-like tags? The template {{Image requested}} exists and it is added to talk pages, not articles. Tbhotch™ (CC BY-SA 4.0) 05:55, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Southern Mexico's notability

[edit]

Good day, WikiProject Mexico!

I recently wrote Southern Mexico. A new page patroller has tagged it for possible notability issues (see discussions: A, B). There was also a related AFD regarding other "regions" of Mexico that may be of interest. I do not think further discussion between only me and the patroller will be useful as we have largely met an impasse. If any of you could weigh in on the discussion or improve the article, that would be great! ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 22:54, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
