If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request a technical move below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- To request a reversion of a recent undiscussed move: Review the guidelines at WP:RMUM of whether a reversion of an undiscussed move qualifies as uncontroversial and if so, the Requests to revert undiscussed moves subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. Note that in some cases, clerks, such as administrators or page movers may determine that your request for a reversion does not pass the criteria and may move the request to the contested section or open a formal requested move discussion for potentially controversial moves on your behalf.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page. A bot will automatically remove contested requests after 72 hours of inactivity.
Technical requests
[edit]Uncontroversial technical requests
[edit]- Sandbox (computer security) → Sandboxing (currently a redirect instead to Sandbox (disambiguation)) (move · discuss) – WP:NATDAB – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 01:13, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- See WP:GERUND where there may or may not be an issue with using the gerund "Sandboxing" as the article title. Regardless, see also Sandbox (software development) where no similar objection has ever been raised. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 12:41, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Tel-Hai University of Kiryat Shmona in the Galilee → Tel-Hai University (currently a redirect back to Tel-Hai University of Kiryat Shmona in the Galilee) (move · discuss) – shorter name also used in sources. not sure if the long one is the official name. HerrHeulsuse (talk) 07:36, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Ray Richards (footballer) → Ray Richards (soccer) (currently a redirect back to Ray Richards (footballer)) (move · discuss) – Australian international soccer player, and spent his whole career in Australia, so disambiguator should be (soccer) as per WP:NCSP Ortizesp (talk) 12:48, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Low Traffic Neighbourhood → low traffic neighbourhood (currently a redirect back to Low Traffic Neighbourhood) (move · discuss) – WP:NCCAPS - not a proper name, majority of sources do not treat it as a proper name. Joe D (t) 13:57, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
[edit]- Somersham, Cambridgeshire → Somersham (currently a redirect instead to Somerton#See also) (move · discuss) – No discussion took place, it's clear that the settlement was the primary topic and now the original doesn't even redirect to something of the same name. Clearly controversial and needs to be reset so if necessary a discussion can take place. Thanks. 10mmsocket (talk) 20:39, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- I'm fine with reverting as an undiscussed move but note that it was moved back in 2008 with the reason "No DAB needed - Somersham in Suffolk is Lower Somersham" yet the village in Suffolk is just Somersham, Suffolk. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:48, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Create a separate DAB at the base title? Thanks! —1isall (talk | contribs) 22:52, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- There's another entry: a person with the surname. Thanks! —1isall (talk | contribs) 01:00, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Contested technical requests
[edit]- Serenity High School → McKinney North High School (move · discuss) – The building of McKinney North High School same address Ranch9613 💬 01:37, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Ranch9613 We cannot just change article names because
The building of McKinney North High School same address
, Could you provide evidence? See WP:COMMONNAME CONFUSED SPIRIT(Thilio).Talk 06:44, 3 August 2026 (UTC)- This is a merger request rather than a requested move, though still not one that should be carried out. The schools are located in the same building/campus but kept separate. ~ Jenson (SilverLocust 💬) 14:24, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Ranch9613 We cannot just change article names because
- V12 → V12 (disambiguation) (currently a redirect back to V12) (move · discuss) – primary topic, should redirect to V12 engine ~2026-42661-46 (talk) 04:24, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- @~2026-42661-46 Primary topic grabs are generally controversial. I say this because other page movers have regularly contested similar requests. Please see WP:PCM. Thanks! —1isall (talk | contribs) 14:56, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Christopher Chandler → Chris Chandler (currently a redirect back to Christopher Chandler) (restricted by the titleblacklist, which page movers can override) (move · discuss) – Several individuals on this page have first names other than Christopher, so the first name should be broader. Administrator who makes the move, also please change the text "Christopher Chandler or Chris Chandler" to "Chris Chandler" ~2026-42437-76 (talk) 17:58, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Every person linked on the disambiguation (not the see also, which is irrelevant) is called Christopher. CoconutOctopus talk 20:41, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

- Nevada State Assembly → Nevada Assembly (currently a redirect back to Nevada State Assembly) (move · discuss) – Per WP:CONCISE and consistency with similar articles. "State" is unnecessary/redundant and "Nevada Assembly" is the official, legal term. Additionally, the prior change was not justified as the terms "Nevada Assembly" and "Nevada State Assembly" are both used. This change is also consistent with the usage of "Nevada Legislature" rather than "Nevada State Legislature" QueenPeppers (talk) 20:38, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- The official name seems to be Nevada State Assembly, Sir Joseph (talk) 22:50, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- That's untrue. The Nevada Legislature uses "Nevada Assembly" and "Nevada State Assembly" interchangeably, and the state constitution defines the chambers as the Assembly and Senate, not the State Assembly and State Senate. QueenPeppers (talk) 23:04, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- @QueenPeppers Has been moved back and forth to this title in the past EdJohnston (talk) 23:35, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- The official name seems to be Nevada State Assembly, Sir Joseph (talk) 22:50, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Lorenzo Mauldin → Lorenzo Mauldin IV (currently a redirect back to Lorenzo Mauldin) (move · discuss) – (Discuss) Move requested in order to retitle the page as the subject's WP:COMMONNAME, per the BC Lions' transactions page and the Canadian Football League's website, as there is an existing redirect which has been edited multiple times under the target name, which prevents the page from being renamed and moved automatically. This move was also contested at WP:RM due to sources covering Mauldin IV's NFL career, including ESPN and AP, conflicting with the above named CFL sources, in regards to the use of the "IV" suffix and so discussion is apparently required per @Confused Spirit. The move has now just about reached the end of its' 7-day discussion period with no participation whatsoever, beyond my own, and so I hereby request that an uninvolved administrator please close the discussion early on these grounds as the move has clearly been proven to be uncontroversial after all. This has also been crossposted to WP:CR. FHSIG13 TALK 23:06, 28 July 2026 (UTC)

Automated comment: @Thilio:, a previous request involving Talk:Lorenzo Mauldin#Requested move 28 July 2026 → Lorenzo Mauldin appears to have been made before (diff). — ThilioBottalk 10:20, 4 August 2026 (UTC)- @Destinyokhiria Thank you for your input. I have rephrased my request to account for the fact that I am, in actuality, requesting an early closure of the discussion, on the same grounds as before. Secondly, as I forgot to address your secondary point regarding the guidelines for this section in my edit summary for the reversion, they do not read as hard-and-fast rules to me, given the issue of the term "usually", and so I feel that this request should be kept here until addressed, as it does still require an administrator as the move in question cannot be completed by a non-admin due to it's technical nature. Please accept my apologies for any previous confusion. FHSIG13 TALK 10:25, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- this is the protection log, , the page can be moved by a page mover, see this guide to which moves need administrators, and even if the page need an Administrator, it will be requested by the Move Request Closer, see Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions.
- My edit was reverted hence this edit. In solidarity, Destinyokhiria (talk / cont) 10:26, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- But am I incorrect to assume that Administrator approval is required for the discussion to be closed early? That is the only issue remaining after your explanation, from what I see. FHSIG13 TALK 10:30, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah, a non admin can perform the move, here's the guideline for Early Closure. In solidarity, Destinyokhiria (talk / cont) 10:36, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) As a page mover, this should not be moved (or closed) per WP:RMEC, and the general standard that RMs run for seven days. Tenshi! (Talk page) 10:38, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Exactly my point, the User also submitted a request at Closure Request. In solidarity, Destinyokhiria (talk / cont) 10:43, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
Automated comment: @Thilio:, there is currently an active requested move discussion involving Lorenzo Mauldin → Lorenzo Mauldin IV on Talk:Lorenzo Mauldin (diff). — ThilioBottalk 10:40, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Ile Oluji Okeigbo → Ile Oluji/Okeigbo (currently a redirect back to Ile Oluji Okeigbo) (move · discuss) – Request to move the current page to the latter name which acts as a redirect. The two towns are different, also the latter name is the officially used format. Jôhola 08:48, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
