Adding Calvinism under Western Denominations

A theological tendency may mean that Calvinism could transcend certain religious boundaries, but I think that Calvinism is generally distinct from other Protestant branches (such as Lutheranism), and as such would probably best be placed as a separate branch. New links

Most of the new links added by helper are those concerning homosexuality. For example Christianity and homosexuality and the history of Christianity and homosexuality or LGBT clergy and gay bishop and Homosexual clergy in the Catholic Church and List of Christian denominational positions on homosexuality and The Bible and homosexuality and Queer theology and Christianity and transgender people. This is an overview template and so we don't need two related links for each topic. Otherwise the template will be bloated for no reason. I have tried to trim these links but was reverted. I have given my reason for reverting back here.

Also, terrorism is not a major topic associated with Christianity. I see no reason for its conclusion and will remove it as well. Durziil89 (talk) 15:04, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

I agree with User:Durziil89 that the template should be basic in the sense that it should include major topics related to Christianity, (such as the Trinity, Prayer and Creeds). It should not focus on one topic alone, in keeping with the templates of other religious traditions, much like that of Judaism or Islam. That being said, I have restored the de facto denominational list that is a result of teamwork with User:Helper201 and me (with the addition of the Old Catholic Church). I hope this helps. Changed color of cross

The color for the cross was previously black, which is nowhere to be found in any offical capacity. Purple has been chosen as this represents "A sign of priestly calling, divine kingship, & royal identity, representing Christ as Mediator & King." -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:26, 6 July 2026 (UTC)

TheLionHasSeen -- Hello, was wondering why you changed the color of the Christian cross back to black. It was my concern that black was inappropriate -- made the symbol seem somber, per the reference I cited. The color used in the sidebar for Judaism is blue; the symbol for Islam is green; Hinduism is orange. Why are we using black for Christianity? -- Gwillhickers (talk) 15:32, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Agree that the color should not be a somber black, and purple is a good choice per Gwillhickers, maybe a deep purple would be better. Or, as an alternate, maybe a nice brown color which would symbolize an actual wooden cross. Randy Kryn (talk) 22:06, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

While there is no official color for all of Christianity, given all its denominations, no where is black used, except maybe in black and white text books, dictionaries and the like. After an extensive search it appears that purple, red and white are the most commonly used colors.

  White is the color of purity and innocence. It is used during baptisms, confirmations, and funerals.
  Red is the color of blood and sacrifice. It is used during Pentecost and on Good Friday
  Black is the color of death and mourning. It is used during Lent and Advent.
  Green is the color of life and growth. It is used during Ordinary Time.
  Purple is the color of royalty and dignity. It is used during Advent and Lent.

Gogerr, Aunger67 – Hello, an attempt was recently made by myself to change the color of the Christian cross in the side bar/template, but the change was reverted by another editor. As indicated above, using black as the color seems to give the cross a somber appearance. All the other major religions have sidebars that employ a pleasant color. On that note I suggested to use purple, or perhaps red, for the color, but given the last reversion it would seem appropriate to make the change with more than the current 2 to 1 (marginal) consensus.
