Vladimir Grabinsky → Volodymyr Grabinsky – Per WP:UKR, Ukrainian biographical subjects should use the Ukrainian form of the given name (Volodymyr) rather than the Russian-derived form (Vladimir). KidsKids-and-adults (talk) 21:38, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Support. Changing my !vote from oppose to support. When I checked https://ratings.fide.com/profile/14107074 on September 9, FIDE records still used the Russian transliteration. As Roman Spinner points out, that is no longer true. Players and coaches can have FIDE correct spelling and transliteration of their names, and the change to the FIDE records makes it clear to me what Volodymyr wants. I said that the appropriate spelling for the encyclopedia could change in the future, and that future is now. Quale (talk) 21:06, 13 September 2026 (UTC) Oppose. WP:COMMONNAME dictates the use of the name and spelling found in English-language sources. This can change. Support per nomination. The decisive argument in the above-mentioned Vassily Ivanchuk → Vasyl Ivanchuk at Talk:Vasyl Ivanchuk#Requested move 18 April 2020 was the fact that he was listed by FIDE as Vasyl Ivanchuk.
