Anti-immigration should be added into the ideology section
[edit]the official site of the party still frature anti-immigration and their current leaders have used anti-immigration slangs in their speech even in 2025, I don't see why it shouldn't be, there's million of people voting for them because of their anti-immigration stance. ~2025-33696-16 (talk) 20:00, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
- First anti-immigration is a policy and not a ideology second this is WP:UNDUEWEIGHT Shadow4dark (talk) 20:19, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
- Mqny parties on wikipedia have "anti-immigration' written on their ideology sections so I followed the same pattern
- Here's a few examples
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_and_Direct_Democracy
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ergue-te

- The Wikipedia community had always included policies like anti-immigration into ideology section so I did the same thing, I don't think this considered as UNDUEWEIGHT since their Anti-immigration is reason why they got so popular even in very conservative regions who used to vote for AkP and the only reason people vote them here is because of their anti-immigration view. It was one of the main talking point of the party until the arrest of Istanbul Erkem Imamğolu, they still talk about it and promise to deport all immigrants.
- Also why remove civic nationalism? I added this because CHP rejected ethnonatioanlaism unlike so many Kemalist movements and parties who embrace Turkish identity as ethnic not civic identity. ~2025-33696-16 (talk) 20:55, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Political Position
[edit]The core ideology of the party include Turkish nationalism, anti-immigration, and many other political positions that by far don’t characterise a center left or even center party. By any real standards the party would be designated as center-right to right-wing at best. Lmagoutas (talk) 21:21, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
Objectivity + statement in regards to vandalism concerns
[edit]( This message is especially for Turkish users ) Please don't forget to maintain your objectivity in political matters, it would not help anyone if you revert the leadership status back to Özgür Özel as long as there's no official or legal basis to it, that would not contribute anything other than deceiveing the readers , thanks in advance. Aregar69 (talk) 02:21, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Page can be locked down too in order to prevent cases of vandalism being committed, thanks. Aregar69 (talk) 09:27, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- LeMustache (talk) 17:55, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'm also considering removing "de facto" in the infobox because it implies Özel controls the party, it's confusing IMO. Burcet95 (talk) 23:53, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
To prevent vandalism, page editing privileges should be restricted. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has been officially recognized as the party leader.

- Since the certificate of election is still in Özgür Özel’s possession, Kılıçdaroğlu is currently serving in an acting capacity.
- Besides, in accordance with Wikipedia's principles, a stance should be taken in favor of knowledge and against authoritarian regimes. For example, information about the Nazis is also provided, but they are not given preferential treatment. ~2026-33725-67 (talk) 05:07, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
Parliamentary leader is Özgür Özel
[edit]By Party Constitution, if Party President (there is no party leader in Turkey) is not a People's Deputy, Party's Parliamentary Group elects a People's Deputy as Chair of Parliamentary Group and apart from Kılıçdaroğlu being ineligible to position, deputies already elected Özgür Özel to that position a few days ago. ~2026-31440-10 (talk) 20:50, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Factions
[edit]Should factions of the party, as in the Turkish version of this article, be included in the infobox? In particular nationalism, democratic socialism and social liberalism.

Infobox Leadership Updates
[edit]I have updated the infobox structure to reflect the most recent leadership dynamics and court rulings regarding the party's chairmanship. Specifically, I adjusted the alignment of the leadership fields and added Özgür Özel's recent resignation announcement with proper sourcing. My intention with these changes is solely to keep the infobox as up-to-date, accurate, and aligned with current developments as possible, in full compliance with WP:INFOBOX and WP:NPOV. I welcome any feedback or further refinements from fellow editors. Earslaner2001 (talk) 15:34, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
Splitting proposal
[edit]The original CHP was banned in 1981. Then HP & SODEP were founded which merged into SHP in 1985 and eventually became the current CHP in 1992 but DSP was also founded in 1985 and was the dominant party amongst the Kemalist left 1995–2002.
It looks to me to be a situation similar to the Democrat Party (Turkey, 2007) and Democratic Party (South Korea, 2015): Two parties which are the main descendant of political lineage going back to an old party sharing their name but these are kept in separate articles, Democrat Party (Turkey, 1946–1960) and Democratic Party (South Korea, 1955). So I propose to split CHP into "Republican People's Party (1922)" and "Republican People's Party (1992)". Braganza (talk) 09:20, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
Infoboxes
[edit]

This is how the infoboxes could look like Braganza (talk) 09:32, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- The composition bars for parliamentary seats should be updated with current data reflecting the party’s seat count in the Grand National Assembly. Jptr11 (talk) 09:42, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Jptr11 that is another topic (feel free to change either the article or this infobox) Braganza (talk) 09:58, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Strong oppose per lack of consensus in scholarly literature and misinterpretation of the party's legal continuity.
- The comparison with the Democrat Party or foreign examples doesn't hold up here. In 1992, following Law No. 3821, CHP wasn't set up as a brand-new entity with fresh legal records. Instead, Deniz Baykal and former members reactivated the party's original legal identity and registry that had been dissolved by the 1980 military junta. The 1992 event was a legal re-establishment (ihya), not the creation of a distinct party.
- Furthermore, post-1992 CHP retained its original archives, headquarters assets, emblem, and historical continuity, which was further consolidated when the SHP merged into CHP in 1995.
- Mainstream political science and historiography (e.g., Zürcher, Ahmad) treat CHP as a single continuous party whose operational history was temporarily interrupted between 1981 and 1992 due to military intervention. Splitting this into two separate articles would create an unnecessary content fork (WP:CFORK) and violate WP:COMMONNAME. The current structure with historical sub-sections covers the 1981–1992 gap completely fine. Earslaner2001 (talk) 16:57, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose split per sources.
- Panam2014 (talk) 17:52, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Panam2014 can be a bit more specific please. Braganza (talk) 18:18, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Braganza: the same party have been restaured. Panam2014 (talk) 18:19, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks. In my opinion, there are other cases where pretty much the same happened but they are still split especially in Turkey. The only difference is that they are apparently legally the same(?) according to @Earslaner2001 but this is actually not mentioned in the article. It was also, like I said, not the largest successor party. The article is kinda written weirdly in that regard: "DSP remained separate" and it only concurrently mentions it "With DSP's collapse, CHP became Turkey's main Kemalist party."
- I just feel like it would better represent the time periods. The "Ideology and political positions" only mentions the current positions while the infobox regards the CUP as its direct "predecessor" while recognising the DSP as its "successor". I guess, you could say that MHP's situation is quite similar but it never really had an actual rival after its refounding unlike the original MHP with the Nation Party. Braganza (talk) 18:34, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- I see your point regarding periodization, but the solution to missing context in the article is to refine the content, not to split the page. If the re-established CHP had been a completely distinct legal entity or if it were no longer active today, a split might have made sense. However, the legal continuity via Law No. 3821 (the 1992 Turkish legislation that annulled the 1981 ban on political parties and allowed them to reactivate under their original names) is a historical fact. If the current article lacks explicit mention of this legal reactivation or oversimplifies the 1980s transition regarding DSP and SHP, we should address this directly in the text. Political competition (such as DSP's prominence in the 1990s) does not invalidate institutional continuity. Instead of creating an unnecessary content fork, we can perform a major edit on the article to comprehensively overhaul the history, timeline, and infobox sections. This way, we can fully address the 1981–1992 gap, detail the SHP/DSP dynamics, and clarify the legal reactivation without fragmenting the page. Earslaner2001 (talk) 19:41, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- By the way, regarding the inclusion of the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) in the infobox: treating CUP as a direct "predecessor" is also historically problematic. While there was significant cadre continuity, since many founders of the Republic and early CHP figures had been former CUP members, the Republic and Mustafa Kemal explicitly rejected the CUP’s ideology, war policies, and Adventurism (such as Pan-Turanism). Furthermore, the remaining CUP leadership was politically purged by 1926. Personnel continuity does not equal institutional lineage. The infobox structure needs a major clean-up on these points as well, which further supports the case for a major edit rather than splitting the page. Earslaner2001 (talk) 19:48, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- while I still prefer splitting it, overhauling the section would be fine too.
- Maybe a graph like for Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance would be helpful.

- For your information there exists a minority of scholars that believe 1923 CHP and 1992 CHP are different parties. However it is fringe theory and we are supposed to present mainstream scholarship on Wikipedia. This is a thoughtful suggestion, but for the reasons iterated by @Earslaner2001, I oppose splitting the article. Benlittlewiki (talk) 21:28, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Benlittlewiki: We should made a source's compilation.
- Also @Braganza: we should add 1946 split which lead to form the Democrat Party (Turkey, 1946–1960). Panam2014 (talk) 14:34, 27 July 2026 (UTC)

Has CHP been ousted from the Socialist International?
[edit]As of July 28, the CHP is no longer listed as a member party on the Socialist International's website at . The row for Turkey is empty. Archived versions of the website at indicate that the CHP was listed there up to at least 11 June and has been missing since at least 2 July. Have we got some sourced background info about any such step on the SI's side? According to the archived timeline, the change must have been made several weeks after the SI published its general statement in support of the Özgür Güzel-led CHP against the "nullification" (, from 28 May), but several weeks before the foundation of the new Yeni Parti and the SI's public statement in support of that (https://www.instagram.com/p/DbL6ugZiLYk/) ~ Fut.Perf. ☼ 08:54, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
