Ben's Garden is an American home accessories company founded by Ben Busko in 1992 in Setauket, New York. Its products include decoupage trays, stationery, and decorative objects.[1]
History
[edit]Ben Busko founded Ben's Garden in 1992, when he was eight years old.[1] He initially sold decoupage objects and notecards at an outdoor crafts fair. By 1994, his products were sold at Smith & Hawken and the New York Botanical Garden gift shop.[2]
The company opened its first retail store in Oyster Bay, New York, in 2004, followed by a store in Huntington, New York, in 2007. It also launched an e-commerce website in 2007. By January 2013, the company had expanded into a 14,000-square-foot facility in Brooklyn for production and distribution.[2]
In December 2020, Ben's Garden opened a store in Stony Brook, New York. A March 2021 profile reported that the Oyster Bay and Huntington stores had closed and that the company operated stores in Stony Brook and SoHo.[1]
Products
[edit]Ben's Garden produces decoupage glass trays, paperweights, stationery, and other home accessories.[2]
Busko uses reverse decoupage, attaching paper images to the underside of glass objects. His designs incorporate botanical illustrations, vintage maps, and quotations, sometimes supplemented with calligraphy or painted details. A 2013 profile in New York Cottages & Gardens described Busko and a small team of artisans producing the company's work in a studio in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.[3]
