On this WikiProject Stub sorting subpage, you can propose new stub types (please read the procedures beforehand!), as well as the reorganization and subdivision of existing stub types. You can also discuss anything else related to stubs on the talk page.

Proposing new stub types – procedure

Important: If you wish to propose the creation of a stub article you've come to the wrong place. If you don't have a username yourself, please go to WP:AFC for proposing a new article. If you already have a username, you can create the article yourself. If you don't know how, add {{Helpme}} to your user talk page to request help from other editors. This page only deals with stub templates and categories; we cannot help you with creating articles.

Proposing new stub types

If you wish to propose a new stub category and template, please follow these procedures:

Check the List of stub types or under Category:Stub categories to make sure that your proposed new stub does not already exist.
List it at the top of the current month's section, under a header, like the ones shown (if any). Sign it with a datestamp (~~~~).
- Please bear in mind that a stub category isn't about the importance or notability of the topic!
Find a good number of stub articles, as many as you can, that will fit that template. You may use this tool to scan through categories; tagged stubs are always in Category:All stub articles and transclude {{asbox}}. Each of these articles can be:
- currently marked with {{stub}};
- currently marked with another type of stub tag (in which case you should justify why your tag is better for the article than the current one);
- a stub whose categorisation is highly ambiguous or questionable;
- not marked as a stub.
If you use any category scan (from the tool mentioned above or from any other), please link to it so that other users can confirm that the results are still accurate.
Others may do the same, if they so desire.
5 days after listing it here, if there is general approval or no objection, go ahead and create the new category and/or template following the format on Wikipedia:Stub. List the new stub type on the stub types list in an appropriate section. If consensus is not clear, or discussion is still ongoing, the proposal will remain open until consensus can be reached.
If you wish to propose a stub type which does not currently have 60 articles that could use it, you may propose an upmerged template in a similar way. An upmerged template would feed into currently existing stub categories until such time that there are enough stubs for a separate stub category. At that point a category for it may be separately proposed. Some times, it may be difficult to be sure how many stubs would get a tag - in which case you can also start with an upmerged stub tag until you're sure there are enough.

DO NOT place a proposal here for any stub type which has already been created and is being discussed at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. The proposal page is only for stub types that have not yet been created, and it is better to keep any discussion of such stub types in one place rather than splitting it between different pages. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion is the correct page for proposals to delete a stub type.

^ Good number means about 60 articles or more, or 30 or more if it is the primary stub type of a WikiProject, though this figure may vary from case to case.

"Speedy creation"

A stub type may be proposed for "speedy creation" if it meets one of the following criteria:

S1 - the creation of a category for which an approved upmerged template already exists and is now in use on more than 60 articles.
S2 - the creation of an upmerged national-level template for a subject in which other such national-level templates currently exist (e.g., X-bio-stub, X-hist-stub, or X-geo-stub, where X is the name of an internationally widely recognised country) or other instances where a clearly established pattern of similar subtypes exists. The proposed topic may not be controversial in scope.

List speedy creation proposals in the same proposal listings as normal stub proposals below.

"Political party in XXX" stubs sub-cats

For Political party stubs

Note: this is not exactly a creation as much as a renaming, but this comment and a similar one in the existing category, are not getting any answers. Happy to move the discussion to a better place where people will discuss.

The argument is that, unlike ideologies that are better place beforehand (liberal political party, left-wing political party), names of locations are better placed at the end ("Political parties in Belgium", and not "Belgian political parties"). This is already reflected for categories of political parties per country (e.g. Category:Political parties in Sweden).

In addition, in this very case, the first category below leads to a confusion with European political party, which is different from "Political party in Europe".

I therefore propose the following changes:

Political party in Europe stubs (replacing European political party stubs)
Political party in Northern Europe stubs (replacing Northern European political party stubs)
Political party in Southern Europe stubs (replacing Southern European political party stubs)
Political party in Eastern Europe stubs (replacing Eastern European political party stubs)
Political party in Western Europe stubs (replacing Western European political party stubs)
Political party in Central Europe stubs (Central European political party stubs does not yet exist)

I'm not totally convinced on this, stub categories don't always follow the permcats. If this is to go ahead then i would suggest a wider proposal that includes the categories for all the other continents, regions and countries as well as the european subcats of the Socialist Parties, Communist Parties and Liberal Parties categories. All of that is fine by me, @Waacstats, and I appreciate the better appraisal of what should be done, thank you.

To be clear, my argument was not "the categories operate thus, so we should do the same", but more "this different phrasing is more appropriate, and this logic is also retained elsewhere".

As for Central Europe, I know that many competing definitions of European subregions exist, but it does feel like a relevant category to add, as Central European countries (whatever the precise definition) are often grouped as such and separately from other subregions. Category is getting close to the 800 mark, according to the main article there are a number of subgenus that would pass the 60 mark, I therefore propose the following:

This category has been growing recently and is now over 1200 articles. the following would be viable:

Speedy: French regional train station stub categories

Follow-up to Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/Archive/2023/January#French regional train station stub categories. Of the eight categories requested by Epluribusunumyall (talk · contribs), I created two in January 2023 and left the others, stating oppose Corsica, and weak oppose the other four (presume my typo for "five"). Since then, the use of {{AuvergneRhôneAlpes-railstation-stub}} has grown from 27 to 41 transclusions, which is the same count that {{GrandEst-railstation-stub}} had when I created its category, and on those grounds I intend creating Category:Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes railway station stubs soon. Of the other categories not created in 2023, there has been little growth:

I can see that there may now also be grounds for creating Category:Bourgogne-Franche-Comté railway station stubs and Category:Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur railway station stubs. @Pegship: please read the proposal again. All these templates already exist (they're blue links, not red); my request is to create the categories. The templates were created fifteen years ago, by Dawynn (talk · contribs), following Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/Archive/2011/May#Category:French rail station stubs split - all are listed there, except {{BourgogneFrancheComté-railstation-stub}}, which was moved from {{Burgundy-railstation-stub}} in December 2017. As regards the number of articles, I refer you to this approval: at the time, Grand Est had 41 articles, and Brittany had 32. My option (a) above is to create a category for a template that now has 41 transclusions, the same amount that Grand Est had three years ago. These stub categories were created despite Vysočina Region was not overpopulated, and were never used. IMHO they should never have been created and should be deleted. I suggest deleting them too. There used to be over 800 stubs in that category, so they had a reason, but now they don't and they won't.

We have some by continent sub categories of this. HOwever the main category could be reduced down by removeing the parent only status from these and creating the following templates:

We already have a category for North America that implies it covers the central American countries but no way of getting these in there.

I propose removing the parent only status of the category and creating or {{NorthAm-RC-church-stub}}

OR
