The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed. Many charts and graphs on the web are in the public domain. See c:Template:PD-chart; no need to create another free chart here if it already exists on the web. Advice to requesters

All requests:

  • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
    • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
  • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
  • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

SVG requests:

  • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
  • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

Hi! Here's an interesting request for you!!! There is a flag on the Wiki page "Proposed flags of U.S. states" which shows flags proposed but not selected by various US states. One section is about Massachusetts and its state-wide contest last year (2025) to design a new flag for it. One design, listed as "#10" is an interesting design with a horizontal tricolor from top to bottom of blue, white and green. In the center of the flag (and within all three stripes) is a lighthouse surrounded by a cranberry wreath. Above the lighthouse on the blue stripe is a white five pointed star (the star also seems attacted to the the top lighthouse by what appears to be a lightning rod). It's an interesting design and has some elements that you don't normally see on a flag (the lighthouse and cranberries, in fact, I've never seen a flag with cranberries on it before!) but unfortunately there's one catch, the image supplied here is of an AI-generated version of the flag and has several errors associated with AI-generation. In this AI-generated version, the errors include a misshapen lighthouse, a cranberry wreath with a branch that seemingly melts into the lighthouse, a twisted star and most importantly, blue and white stripes that seem higher inside the wreath and and the right side of it than the left side of the wreath toward the hoist. Come on now! I know this AI generated image wasn't made by anyone on Wikipedia but it does look bad despite the interesting design elements pointed out. Is there an non-AI-generated version of this flag that can be found and uploaded? Does one even exist? Please remove this AI slop from Wikipedia as soon as possible by vectorizing the flag in the file and correcting the errors in it, make the designer of that flag proud, Massachusetts deserves better, Wikipedia can do better!!! @~2026-37773-49 It seems that's how it was originally submitted to the competition; our file is only slightly cropped. There's no human-drawn version yet. Encyclopedically accurate vectorization of this is difficult, and besides, the drawing should be transferred without correcting AI imperfections, which I don't see the point of. Hi! This is a long one but is like that as part of a celebration, namely, the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. All the flags above are associated with the American Revolution and besides that, they all also need vectorizing. I kindly ask for their vectorization. This was originally planned to be posted on the fourth of July (American independence day) but was instead posted early so some of the flags can be vectorized before and even on the day celebrating the event. Wikipedia:Mentorship is a Mediawiki Growth team feature implemented at more than a dozen Wikipedias whereby newly registered editors are automatically assigned an experienced Wikipedia editor, and may reach out to them with questions via a standardized Mentorship module on their Homepage.[a] Mentors respond to mentee questions and help them on-board. Recently, the WP:Mentorship noticeboard has been established to support mentors.

We would like to have a logo that represents the idea of mentorship at Wikipedia. (Some prior discussion about logos may be found at the Noticeboard talk page.) It could be used at the Noticeboard, a FAQ page, and so on as a common identifier. Commons was not much help, perhaps the closest being File:M Icon.png.

Here's an idea that could be the germ of a logo (but you can also go in a different direction):

Imagine two Wikipedia puzzle pieces, with a 'head' at the top, and at least one 'arm' on each piece, outstretched towards the other. They should be about the same size, and could be in two contrasting but not clashing colors, perhaps green and blue. Although some actual jigsaw pieces are 'person-shaped' (a 'head', two 'arms', two 'legs'), those are a minority, and the two pieces needn't be entirely person-shaped; it might be better to skew more towards the more commonly shaped pieces that are not quite that iconic, and have either a squared-off bit or a 'socket' (female connector) either where the other arm or legs should be, rather than have overly person-shaped puzzle pieces. The important part, is the two 'arms' reaching out to each other, representing the 'helping hands' concept.

However, if your creative juices strike, feel free to go in a completely different direction. (For example, see the graphic part of File:Capx-logo.svg, the logo of the m:Capacity Exchange for something completely different. That one doesn't do anything for me, but is about the vaguely-related topic of sharing abilities.)

Secondly (and less important), I would like to have a mascot, something that mentors could use in initial response to mentees, and on pages that invited mentee questions (like the WP:Mentorship module) could use. As a rough cut, I imagine something like a de-infantilized baby globe, something more like, 'Perfesser Globe' perhaps, looking knowledgeable, smiling, instructive, helpful. Or again, whatever strikes you as a mascot that could identify an editor or a page as representing a friendy, knowledgeable mentor who was there to answer your questions.

Hi! I was wondering if someone can kindly please vectorize the alternate flag of the Dutch village of Stompwijk? The flag consists of three horizontal stripes from top to bottom of green, red and white. The green and red stripes both take up a quarter of the flag each meant they're half of the flag in total, the white stripe at the bottom takes up the other two quarters/one half of the flag. In the middle of the white stripe is a red deer that's taken from Stompwijk's coat of arms. I have included not only the flag of Stompwijk (which itself contains the coat of arms) to use for the colors for the stripes but also an upside down version of the flag of Colombia to use both as references so the request can be done more quickly. As discussed here, it is quite difficult to see the images in this white-on-white relief. Would someone please mind trying to find a way to make the figures more visible? One idea is to increase the contrast to make the figures more visible (see the example at the previous link). Another idea is to add dark lines over the texture in the image, to highlight the different features.

I didn't know they changed the flag. The flag I was looking at was the one archived at web.archive.org on January 1 2024 https://web.archive.org/web/20240101/https://www.mastenenvlaggen.nl/product/dorpsvlag-lewedorp/ and this was the one I asking for vectorization. I use the list in this link to decide what flags need vectorisation and have archived the sites listed on both web.archive.org and archive.ph (aka archive.is, if one doesn't work, try the other). This is a good idea because the website listed for "Voorne aan Zee" was shut down and I was able to replace the link with the archived one. For the record, Voorne aan Zee had changed their flag since that page was archived and I had not checked mastenenvlaggen.nl in a while. That flag is apparently the old one and I didn't know that they had a new one. With the discovery that Lewedorp had changed their flag in the years since, I kindly ask request that both are done. Hi! Today I kindly ask if some someone can please vectorize an inaccurate version of flag of Myanmar as depicted on the ASEAN ceremonial giant gong at Wat Ounalom Monastery in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The correct flag of Myanmar/Burma is a flag of three horizontal stripes all of the same length of yellow, green and red from top to bottom. In the middle of the flag and touching all three stripes is a white five-pointed star. The inaccurate version mistakenly swaps the positions of the yellow and red stripes but doesn't flip it up-side down because the star is still depicted right-side up. Vectorize these former logos of the United States Soccer Federation and the United States national soccer team shown above. I've searched the web before listing the files here to see if vector versions were already available, to no avail. It seems to me that they may need to be manually drawn. I got some vectorized outside Wikimedia projects, and I didn't like the result, it seems rushed. Now fix those logos. For the two logos from 1984-1986, use Helvetica or Univers if you can't find the exact typeface for the words "USSF" and "NATIONAL TEAM". I think every logo used by the Brazilian Football Confederation can be vectorized. Also, for the logos used between 1980 and 1991 (not displayed here), a free rendition of the Jules Rimet trophy can be used to replace the official logo of the time, which is copyrighted) as the trophy is in the public domain since 2024 (Abel Lafleur, the designer of the trophy, died in 1953). For the other CBF logo with the Jules Rimet trophy, there's a coffee company logo (Café do Brasil) which does not meet the threshold of originality, inside the CBF logo.
