The subject may be considered notable for the role, but the article is still insufficient to demonstrate notability through significant coverage in reliable sources. The article has four references: I cannot access the first; the third is about the National Library of Algeria; and the last reports his death. Only L'Expression discusses his life and career. I therefore decided that the article was not yet ready and moved it to draftspace so that it could be improved with additional citations. However, the creator repeatedly moved it back to mainspace without passing through AfC, which has now led to this AfD. Htanaungg (talk) 07:42, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

• Keep - I agree with @RiadS99's explanation of subject's notability. He was an eminent scholar and is credited, for example, on the article about the Zahr al-Bustan fi Dawlat Bani Ziyan manuscript, because he was the person who rediscovered that seminal historic record and shared it with the rest of the world (before then, no one realized it was preserved in a library in England, having been donated from someone's private collection). Speedy keep clearly meets WP:NSCHOLAR, WP:POLITICIAN, and WP:AUTHOR Wisenerd (talk) 04:49, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

• Strong keep - This nomination is premature. The nominator relied on the MoveToDraft script to move the article without a thorough manual review, followed immediately by this nomination. This appears to be a hasty, automated process that misuses procedures as a form of retaliation for bypassing the optional Draft space. This is a clear failure to perform the required WP:BEFORE search. The subject easily satisfies WP:GNG and multiple WP:BIO criteria (contrary to the nominator's claims"insufficient to demonstrate notability") :

1. WP:ANYBIO / WP:AUTHOR: He was a founding contributor to El Moudjahid, the principal media organ of the Algerian War. He is personally responsible for editing and preserving Al-Tanasi's history of the Zayyanid dynasty and Ibn Marzuq's manuscript on the Marinids. These are foundational texts, a vast portion of modern historiography regarding the Zayyanids and Marinids relies directly on his academic work.
2. WP:POLITICIAN: He served at the highest levels of national administration as the first post-independence Director of the National Library of Algeria and as a direct counselor to the President of the Republic.
3. Significant coverage WP:GNG: He has received extensive, independent coverage in major national newspapers, specifically L'Expression and Le Quotidien d'Oran. He is the subject of a dedicated biographical book published by the High Islamic Council, and an international academic conference was dedicated to his memory. See also the memorial tribute by Amine Zaoui in Liberté.

The nominator openly admits their true motivation: "the creator repeatedly moved it back to mainspace without passing through AfC, which has now led to this AfD." I am not obligated to follow a misunderstanding of the rules; the AfC process is entirely optional. Using the deletion process as a punitive measure simply because I bypassed an optional procedure is highly disruptive. As policy explicitly states: A procedural, coding, or grammatical error in a new contribution is not grounds for reverting it, unless the error cannot easily be fixed. AfD exists to evaluate notability, not to discipline editors for ignoring the draft space. Per WP:POINT: Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point.

Despite this, the nominator admits he discounted a source simply because "I cannot access the first link" (really?). This rationale directly violates WP:ARTN: Notability is a property of a subject and not of a Wikipedia article. It further violates WP:NEXIST, which dictates: Notability requires only that suitable independent, reliable sources exist in the real world; it does not require their immediate presence or citation in an article.

Using automated scripts for rapid-fire draftifications without any attempt to improve the text goes against the spirit of building an encyclopedia. Weaponizing the AfD process over a procedural grievance wastes considerable volunteer effort that should be spent on content. The sources exist, and the subject is undeniably notable, there was even a public petition to rename the National Library in his honor. You are free to !vote keep and argue for his notability. I will not oppose any view on the issue or any argument for notability, as long as it is reasonable. However, calling this nomination immature, saying that I do not understand the rules, and accusing me of misusing the tools are unfair accusations. I was granted reviewer rights based on my understanding of the guidelines and my experience with AfD and AfC. I asked you to submit it through AfC so that another reviewer could decide whether the article was ready for mainspace. I also have nothing to gain from saying something untrue. When I say that I cannot access a source, I simply mean that I cannot access it. (Thanks to the editor who provided an archived version.) Setting that aside, what I had hoped for was improvement to the article through the addition of more citations where sourcing was lacking in some sentences, rather than being accused of immaturity. If the result is keep, that is fine; I will not object to the outcome. Please do not take draftification or an AfD nomination too seriously. They are part of the normal process of reviewing new pages, and this is not something I do only with your article. Htanaungg (talk) 15:43, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
