Tenacia is a 199.14-metre Italian Ro-Pax ferry owned by Grimaldi Holding SpA and operated by Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV). Built in 2008 by Nuovi Cantieri Apuani, she features two Wärtsilä engines delivering 24,000 kW for a service speed of 25 knots, serving passenger and freight routes across the Tyrrhenian and Balearic Seas.
Service
[edit]Launched on 1 March 2008 at the Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in Marina di Carrara with the name Tenacia and delivered on 4 April to Grimaldi Lines, it began service the following day on the connections between Genoa and Barcelona under the GNV flag. From April to June 2010 it underwent renovation works at the Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in Marina di Carrara, during which the passenger capacity was increased.[1]
In November 2011 it was chartered on a long-term basis to Trasmediterránea and entered service in December on the routes between Barcelona, Valencia and Palma de Mallorca.[2]
On 15 October 2020 it was chartered together with its twin ship Forza to GNV and entered service on the connections between Valencia and Palma de Mallorca, although also operating on rotation on the other lines of the GNV network.[3]
On January 20, 2022, the bareboat charter is extended for another 5 years. On 23 November 2022 it was sub-leased to Caronte & Tourist and used until the end of December on the connections between Salerno and Messina as a replacement for the Cartour Delta. On 8 July 2024, while sailing towards Palma de Mallorca, a fire broke out in the ferry's engine room, which was promptly put out by the crew. However, the ferry, having lost its propulsion due to the fire, was subsequently towed by the tug Xerea to Valencia.[4][5] In the same month it was transferred to the towing yard in Naples, where it was repaired.[6] At the beginning of July 2025 it returned to service on the connections between Civitavecchia and Termini Imerese, being transferred in April 2026 to those between Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca to replace the Golden Carrier, the latter temporarily in service on the route to replace the GNV Sealand.[7][8]
