A text-based welcome message for new users, which presents nine links in seven bullets to help them get started with Wikipedia. This is similar to an old version of the standard welcome template, before buttons were introduced there.

Add {{subst:Welcome-retro}} ~~~~ to the user's talk page.
Parameters
There are seven parameters, all optional:
|1=Sender– The username of the person sending the message. Used for a link to your talk page.|art=Article title– Article to which the user contributed positively:{{subst:Welcome-retro|art=Radar detector}}|heading=no– Suppress the automatic heading:{{subst:Welcome-retro|heading=no}}|headtext=Greetings!– Change the contents of the heading:{{subst:Welcome-retro|headtext=Greetings!}}|newuser=y– drops "Thanks for your contributions" from first paragraph. (alias:|nothanks=y)|customend=– Adds a custom ending to replace "Again, welcome!"|project=– adds a suggestion that they consider joining a WikiProject; e.g.,Aviation,France,Geography,Women in Red, etc.; the suggestion is placed after the words "Task center" (default: no project suggestion) find a WikiProject
Briefer
Use {{subst:Welcome}} for a briefer message with big buttons instead of policy links.
For unregistered editors
Unregistered editors may be welcomed; they receive a temporary account which identifies their contributions without disclosing their IP address. A standard, button-based welcome is at {{subst:Welcome-unregistered}}, or you can use {{subst:Welcome-temp-retro}} for a retro style template more like this one.
