Template:R from CamelCase/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Purpose

[edit]

Redirects from "CamelCase" to conventional spacing and capitalization should use this redirect category template. It is more specific than using R from alternative spacing, R from other capitalisation, and/or R from alternative spelling for these cases.

In the first versions of Wikipedia, links and page URLs used CamelCase versions of the page titles. When the rule changed in 2002, page URLs were changed to a more conventional format (the page title, with the first letter capitalized, and with spaces replaced with underscores; e.g., ".../CamelCase" was moved to ".../Camel_case"). The revised Wikilinks are surrounded by doubled brackets, spaces are retained within, and the case of the first letter does not matter; all for ease of linking. Moving those pages left these redirects to keep old internal and external links working. They are a historic part of this encyclopedia.

Usage

[edit]
 • Add this rcat to a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT (target page name)

and when the redirect is in article mainspace, printworthiness should also be tagged:
#REDIRECT (target page name)

Template Rcat shell is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT (target page name)

R from CamelCase
This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
