Zdenci in 16th century

[edit]

Someone that knows more can add interesting details.

Zdenci, known as Sdenz in the Italian of the early 16th century, served as the staging ground or a key stop on his return route. It was a vital strategic point in the defense system protecting the borderlands between the Hungarian-Croatian Kingdom and Ottoman-held territories.

In June 1525, the legendary warrior-noble Krsto Frankopan (Christopher Frangipane) led a daring and famous military expedition to relieve the besieged fortress of Jajce in Bosnia, which was then a crucial Christian outpost against the Ottoman Empire. On June 24, after the rescue, Frankopan wrote a report about the campaign while in Sdenz. ~2026-95957-3 (talk) 16:46, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
