The result of the move request was: not moved since the target page already exists Kautilya3 (talk) 00:29, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
Zanskar → Zanskar district – On 27th April 2026, Zanskar was officially notified as a new district with Padum as HQ. ~2026-22077-04 (talk) 04:06, 2 May 2026 (UTC) Rationale moved here.-- Kautilya3 (talk) 22:28, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose: district page is already restored current page will serve as a town or valley. And separate page exist Zanskar district. District related information can be added there. ~2026-26689-31 (talk) 08:54, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
- Comment Please move the article name space to Zanskar District. See news Historic milestone for Ladakh: Five new districts notified in Ladakh; taking total districts to seven. Thank you. ~2026-22077-04 (talk) 04:06, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
- Comment. The new districts have been notified and acting Deputy Commissioners have been given charge. I would have like to wait for the dust to settle before making changes, but then Zanskar has always been recognised as a distict region,[1] and this issue has been sitting on the table since August 2024.[2] The people have been demanding it for a long time. So I don't any serious problem in making the change. (I know that the Kargilis are unhappy about it but I don't understand why they are raising objections now since the decisions have been made more than a year ago.) -- Kautilya3 (talk) 23:56, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
- Oh, I notice that somebody created a new page on Zanskar district. It should be merged into this page because it describes exactly the same region as this page does. Recall that this page was already marked as a tehsi (subdistrict), which has now been promoted to a district. No new page should exist for the topic. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 00:03, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Actually, the move request is improper, since the target page already exists. So I will close this request. A separate merge request will need to be filed, if the issue proves to be contentious. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 00:24, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Improper restoration of merged article Zanskar district
[edit]In 2024, I merged Zanskar district into Zanskar because there was high overlap between the two articles.
The IP editor ~2026-26689-31 (talk · contribs) undid the merge. I believe this is an improper fork of content, because that caused Wikipedia to have two articles that are about the Zanskar region/tehsil/district. I boldly restored the redirect. I will rescue some of the new material from Zanskar district
@Kautilya3: Note that the same author recreated the article who opposed the move. We should not let a newly-created article created by someone who opposed the move to block the move discussion. Now that I've recreated the redirect, I believe we should reopen the discussion on the best title for this article. — hike395 (talk) 05:42, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Hike395 If any content is overlaps, it can be removed. Otherwise, through a move discussion, the separate district article must be restored as soon as possible. However, the old Zanskar can serve as a region/town with historical content. I didn't add similar content on these pages, but a different temporary account did. You can verify this through the contributions. I just restored district page as @Kautilya3 also described district page was already there as a redirect to this page. ~2026-26689-31 (talk) 05:51, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- @~2026-26689-31: You are probably not familiar with Wikipedia process. A move discussion is not for determining whether an article should be merged or unmerged. It's simply to determine the best title for an article, following the guidelines at WP:TITLE.
- In effect, you unmerged two articles that were merged two years ago. I object to this, because of WP:OVERLAP, so I restored the redirect, and merged all new material you wrote from Zanskar district back into this article. In my opinion, there is no reason to have a Zanskar article separate from Zanskar district. This is a separate discussion from what that article should be titled.
- If you think you can write two separate non-overlapping articles, please create them at Talk:Zanskar/new and Talk:Zanskar district/new. Editors can then assess whether each article stands on its own, per our notability guidelines — hike395 (talk) 06:03, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
~2026-26689-31 (talk · contribs) has partially unmerged the articles again. I have created a merge request at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zanskar district. All editors are invited to join in the merge discussion there. — hike395 (talk) 06:19, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Hike395 Thanks. You're welcome to edit article as you see fit. I think a merge request is the best approach, and I appreciate your contributions.~2026-26689-31 (talk) 06:37, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
Direction of merge
[edit]After the discussion at AfD, I merged Zanskar into Zanskar district. Kautilya3 reverted that merge direction because the discussion was nominally the other direction (Zanskar district into Zanskar). The only reason why I did the merge backwards is because at AfD, Kautilya3 and LaundryPizza03 both stated that the final merged article should be titled "Zanskar district".
I suppose we could open an requested move and do it in two steps, although that seems like unnecessary bureaucracy. — hike395 (talk) 03:00, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry if I wasn't clear. The older page has the edit history that needs to be preserved. The name change is a separate issue. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 16:35, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Kautilya3: As LaundryPizza03 says below, no page is going to be deleted from the merge. The merge was complete with no further actions to be taken. The net result of the reversion is that the page histories will be swapped.
- As I said, this seems pointless. If you really want to swap the page histories, we can go ahead and wait for a page mover to close the RM as "Move". If you don't care, I can close the RM as "Withdrawn" and we can undo the reversion of the merge. — hike395 (talk) 13:57, 23 May 2026 (UTC)

Zanskar → Zanskar district – This article is about the newly-defined Zanskar district. The titles of Indian district articles end in "district", so this article should be moved per WP:CONSISTENT. Hat tip to LaundryPizza03. — hike395 (talk) 03:06, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Support You and I were the only ones who justified the direction for the merge in the AfD. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 03:58, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Support There is no problem with renaming after the merge is completed and the existing Zanskar district page is deleted. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 16:30, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- The target has nontrivial history, so the pages will need to be swapped. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 18:19, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
Page history now in incorrect place
[edit]@BilledMammal: Subsequent to your page history swap, above, R571463 moved Zanskar to Draft:Zanskar. MPGuy2824 then recreated the redirect from Zanskar to Zanskar district. In effect, your history swap has been negated. Would it be possible to move Draft:Zanskar back to Zanskar in order to preserve its history? — hike395 (talk) 13:06, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
- All three page histories are now quite complicated. Looking through them again, it looks to me like the latest draftification was wrong (per WP:DRAFTNO), and should be undone as hike395 suggests. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 13:16, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
- Done. BilledMammal (talk) 03:45, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
More economic sources
[edit]The livestock and transport sections have no citations. They were previously marked with tags that indicated that, but an anonymous editor removed those tags. The issue still remains, so I restored a single "more citations are needed" tag for the whole Economy section. If the anonymous editor wishes to remove that tag, please add at least one citation to each of the livestock and tourism section. For what it's worth, I looked for references for the livestock material, and couldn't find any. — hike395 (talk) 15:23, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
