that "great amounts of excrement" once ran by the New Zealand prime minister's office?

Overall:
Article moved to mainspace on 9 September, nominated on 15 September. No copyvio identified through Earwig, nor other signs of potential copyvio. Article is written neutrally, sourced, and reads well. QPQ is good (it's nice to see an encouraging and friendly message for the nominator in that situation). Hook is clever, amusing, and cited. My only qualm is whether the hook meets the WP:DYKMAJOR requirement. The hook is about Tutaenui Stream (a neighbouring stream that does not have its own article), not Waipiro. In addition, the piped link may also give the reader the mistaken impression that "Waipiro" translates to "great amounts of excrement". I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this as nominator, Nil_NZ. (Perhaps a similarly structured hook covering "putrid, stinking water" and New Zealand's Parliament could be an option...?) - @Nil NZ: no rush on this if course but just thought I'd better actually ping you, in case you haven't seen! Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 22:10, 19 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hi User:Chocmilk03, thanks for the review! Just noting that I've seen this and will return to have a proper look in a day or so when I have the time. :) nil nz 04:05, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
Thanks again @Chocmilk03! I fear you're right re: DYKMAJOR—unfortunately there's very little published on the Tutaenui, and what does exist usually covers it in tandem with Waipiro, hence the decision to cover them both in one article. That said, Waipiro is definitely the main focus, so a hook focussing on Tutaenui is probably pushing it a little; it's a shame, cos I think the latter makes for a much better hook, but maybe I'll just have to put that in my back pocket in case I'm fortunate enough to be able to split it off in the future... Thoughts on the below instead?
- ALT 1 ... that "putrid, stinking water" once ran beneath New Zealand's parliament?
nil nz 23:39, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Nil NZ: Completely understand what you mean – I felt bad raising the point as it is such a superb hook. (Maybe we need to raise the profile of the Tutaenui stream somehow...!?)
- I like ALT 1 but am wondering:
- Would "ran under New Zealand's parliament" be more accurate?
- Would it be useful to wikilink Parliament House, Wellington or New Zealand Parliament?
- Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 02:06, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Chocmilk03: My thinking was more "parliament" being the precinct, rather than the building, but I've updated ALT 1 above to say "ran beneath" instead. I think it's probably self-explanatory enough without wikilinking, but wouldn't be opposed if anyone else thinks it's necessary. nil nz 03:55, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
ALT1 approved. @Nil NZ: sounds sensible to me on the wikilink side of things! Thanks for your work on this article & nomination. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 09:32, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
