Digital allocation

[edit]

Does anyone know what WQHS's digital location is?

Sorry, forgot this: 24.61.119.222 18:43, 22 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Sorry again, I'll just go query with the FCC...

Article split proposal

[edit]

I think WKBF-TV should be given its own seperate article from WQHS-TV. They may have used the same allocation, but WQHS is a new seperate license from WKBF. If WKBF's former sister station, WKBS-TV was split from the WGTW-TV article, then the same should be done with WKBF and WQHS. John 10:18, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have split the article into two

[edit]

WKBF-TV and WCLQ/WQHS are two seperate licenses, so I split the article into two and gave WKBF-TV its own article. John 09:24, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:WQHS.jpg

[edit]

Image:WQHS.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hi @Sammi Brie, review is below. I know you are away at the moment so feel free to wait to reply to this until you get back. I thought you did a very good job of providing context in this article, which made it engaging and easy to follow. IAWW (talk) 16:28, 14 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the review. I'll tackle this when I get back. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 01:23, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think I've handled most prose items, It is a wonderful world. The last suggestion is a project-level item, and I will handle it there. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 07:52, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Sammi Brie, I hope you had a good time away! I'm passing this now as I am happy with your changes. IAWW (talk) 13:11, 21 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Lead

[edit]

The direct quote "pass-through" should have a citation.

Prior history of channel 61

[edit]

actual independent station: "actual" is weird wording here? Is it meant to connotate something? If so, either cut that or make it clear what it's trying to connotate.

Link and maybe spell out "UHF"

WCLQ-TV (1981–1986)

[edit]

The station even revived: "even" reads like this point is an extra big deal, which isn't neutral. I suggest replacing with "also".

the service only had 22,000 subscribers: "Only" isn't very neutral

Nice monetary conversions :)

The addition of competition also drove down ratings and advertising rates, with WOIO charging basic cable rates for a typical commercial: I don't understand how the post-comma part of the sentence relates to the first part. I'm also struggling to understand what a "typical commercial" means in this context. Could you rephrase this to make it a bit more accessible?

  • Wow, Nathan left a clunker here. I've reworded this sentence to increase its source fidelity and make it more comprehensible. (Nathan also happens to be on vacation)

"UHF" is linked here but it has been used before

The HSN years (1986–2002)

[edit]

Embassy Television also filed a petition with the FCC against the deal: It's unclear what "the deal" refers to

Suggest linking "Akron Beacon Journal"

Univision years (2002–present)

[edit]

Some were used to launch new Univision stations: I think cut this as is is unnecessary detail, or move it to the beginning of the paragraph. The sentence disrupts the storyline of Telefutura, which makes the narrative harder to follow.

However, even compared: "even" seems redundant here, and doesn't really fit the structure of the sentence.

Cleveland had a smaller Hispanic population, with Nielsen estimating only 25,000 Hispanic households and 77,000 viewers: It hasn't been mentioned that Telefutura was a Spanish language network targeting Hispanic communities, so the reader won't understand why this is relevant yet.

Despite 20 years of Univision ownership, WQHS has never produced a full-length local newscast: I think the contrasting structure introduced by "despite" is editorializing here

[3]: Doesn't seem to support "Despite some innovative local programming and an inventory of some popular off-network shows, WKBF struggled for the majority of its existence due to poor revenue growth. The station failed to achieve profitability while competing against rival independent WUAB (channel 43), which signed on nine months after WKBF in September 1968."

  • I think the intention was that this was a summary of the WKBF-TV article (which is almost ready to go up, but Nathan wanted to dig through newly available Cleveland Press archives first). I've added some of that article's refs here.

[32]: checkY though I'm not sure "with the station losing "a few million dollars" annually" should be stated as a fact if it is later contested by the president.

Suggestions (not needed for GA promotion)

[edit]

I'm not sure only listing the location of the transmitter in the lead and infobox is technically in keeping with MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE and MOS:LEAD.

  • I'll start this as a project-level discussion. I am not really sure where it should go otherwise. I may ping you on it too. Or if you want to bring it up at WT:TVS, perhaps you have a good perspective after taking so many of my pages for review. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 07:52, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Honestly I have a bit of a penchant against spending time on strict MOS compliance matters when there are so many more important issues to fix throughout the encyclopedia, and it's beyond the scope of GA. Nonetheless if you discuss it, ping me and I'll weigh in. I wouldn't hold it against you if you just ignore it for the time being though. IAWW (talk) 13:07, 21 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

  • Article is easily long enough and made GA on 21 June (congrats!). Hook fact is interesting, present in article, and cited (present in source exactly as written in article). Unsurprisingly, all article sourcing looks solid and Earwig looks good. QPQ is done. Looking good to me, nice work! PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 16:49, 23 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
